Mukhyamantri Septic Tank Safai Yojana launched for safe cleaning of septic tanks in Delhi

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched ‘Mukhyamantri Septic Tank Safai Yojana’, a scheme aimed at helping people in waste management and ensuring the safety of sanitation workers.

  • According to the government, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will deploy 80 trucks along with trained staff to ensure cleaning and maintenance of septic tanks across Delhi.
  • The government plans to achieve three objectives with the scheme — a collection of waste from septic tanks in the colonies, ensuring safe disposal of the waste in sewage treatment plants, and deployment of trained staff with safety equipment for cleaning septic tanks.

CBI sets up special unit against child pornography

In a war against sexual exploitation of children, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has set up an online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation(OCSAE) Prevention and Investigation Unit at New Delhi under its Special Crime Zone to tackle the menace of child porn on the internet.

  • This step has been taken after the Germany Police provided information about seven Indian Nationals involved in International Child pornography, who are being investigated by the CBI.

DPIIT sets up development council for bicycle

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has set up a ‘development council’ for bicycle to manufacture and design bicycles which are comparable with global standards for exports and domestic market.

  • The council will be chaired by Guruprasad Mohapatra, DPIIT secretary
  • The council has been setup for “vision planning in design, engineering and manufacturing of lighter, smarter, value added, safe and faster premium bicycles which are comparable with global standards for exports and domestic market”

First night trial of Agni II missile conducted successfully

India has successfully conducted the first night trial of Agni-II, its versatile surface-to-surface medium-range nuclear-capable missile from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast.

  • Agni-II, an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), has already been inducted into the armed forces.
  • The two-stage ballistic missile can carry a payload of 1000 kg over a distance of 2000 km.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa wins Sri Lanka Presidential election

Sri Lanka’s former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has won the Presidential election. He is the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

  • Gotabaya served as the Defence Secretary during the end of the LTTE War.

At global event, UP Police bags 3rd prize for response to emergency among 500 forces

The Uttar Pradesh Police has been awarded third prize in emergency response category during an international call centre event organised by the Dubai Police.

  • More than 500 police services from across the world including the 911 of the US considered in the maiden edition of the ‘Dubai Police International Call Centre Award’.
  • The first prize was bagged by the Singapore Police, while the second was won by the Sharjah Police.

Renowned Rabindra Sangeet exponent from Bangladesh Rezwana Choudhury Bannya was conferred the ICCR distinguished alumni award in Dhaka.

  • Rezwana Choudhury Bannya is widely recognised as a great exponent of Rabindra Sangeet.

Noted singer Cochin Azad passes away

Singer Azad Yusuf, popularly known as Cochin Azad, who was famous for his renditions of Mohammed Rafi songs, passed away. He was 62.

1984 Bhopal gas tragedy activist Abdul Jabbar passes away

Social activist Abdul Jabbar, who fought for victims and survivors of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, has passed away. Jabbar had been undergoing treatment for the past few months.

Former Australia leg-spinner Tony Mann passes away

Former Australia leg-spinner Tony Mann, who played four Tests between 1977 and 1978, has passed away aged 74 after a long battle with cancer.
