PM Modi conferred ‘The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance’ in Bahrain

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred ‘The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance’ during his meeting with the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Manama. PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Bahrain.

Haryana govt rolls out Mukhya Mantri Parivar Samridhi Yojana 

Haryana Government announced the roll-out of ‘Mukhya Mantri Parivar Samridhi Yojna’ which will provide social security to families. Under the scheme, Rs 6000 per year will be given to each eligible family.

  • The eligibility for the scheme is for families having an annual income less than Rs 1,80,000 or a total landholding of fewer than two hectares.
  • Under the scheme, each beneficiary family will be entitled to get Rs 500 per month.

Alibaba Foundation and UCWeb to host 9.5 Philanthropy Conference 2019 in India

UC Web, on behalf of the Alibaba Foundation, will host the global sub forum of 2019 Alibaba Philanthropy on September 5, 2019 in New Delhi.

  • The Alibaba Foundation is a charitable organization established by Alibaba Group and UCWeb is a business within Alibaba Innovation Initiatives Business Group. Alibaba is the world’s first Internet Company that integrates philanthropy into its core strategy.
  • The keynote session will focus on the theme ‘Power to Empower’, outlining how Internet as ‘Power’ can ‘Empower’ everyone by giving them equal opportunities to learn.

Typhoon Bailu makes landfall in China’s Fujian

Typhoon Bailu made landfall in China’s Fujian. More than 14,000 people have been evacuated while nearly 10,000 ships have been recalled in the Chinese province.

Serbia becomes 73rd non-regional member of AIIB, Greece as 74th

Serbia has officially become the 73rd non-regional member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

  • The Resolution of the Board of Governors also confirmed Greece as a 74th member of that international organization.
  • The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, based in Beijing, has begun operation in 2016. Aside from Serbia, its new non-regional member, banks members outside of The Asia-Pacific include Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain and others,

Govt to release ₹70,000 crore immediately to state-run banks

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced measures to revive economic growth and markets. She also said that GST regime will be simplified further and the government will release ₹70,000 crore capital upfront to public sector banks to boost credit to different sectors of the economy.

Bandhan Bank launches co-branded credit card with Standard Chartered

In a bid to offer a complete suite of services to its existing customers, Bandhan Bank, launched a co-branded credit card in association with Standard Chartered bank.

  • As part of the tie-up, while Standard Chartered bank will take the credit risk, Bandhan Bank will be responsible for identifying and issuing cards to its customers.

India slips 5 spots on Henley Passport Index

The new Henley Passport Index is out, and there has been a major shuffle in the global ranking of the world’s passports.

  • India slipped to 86th spot from the previous 79th place with access to 58 countries. The country shared the spot with Mauritania, and Sao Tome and Principe.
  • Japan retained its top spot as the world’s most powerful passport in 2019 for the second time in a row. However, Singapore also shared the top spot with Japan in becoming the world’s most travel-friendly passport due to the document’s access to 189 countries.

Amazon to acquire 49% stake in Kishore Biyani’s Future Coupons

Kishore Biyani-led Future Group announced that American e-commerce giant Amazon.com is acquiring a 49% stake in a group entity — Future Coupons Ltd. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

BWF World Championships: Sai Praneeth finishes with bronze

India’s B Sai Praneeth lost the men’s singles semi-final 13-21, 8-21 to World No. 1 Kento Mmomta of Japan at the BWF World Championships 2019 in Basel but finished with his maiden medal at the world meet.

  • With this, Praneeth became the first Indian male shuttler in 36 years to secure a medal in the BWF World Championships. Thus he became the only 2nd Indian men’s singles player to win a medal in BWF World Championships
  • Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to win a men’s singles World Championships medal — a bronze — in the 1983 edition.

India clinches gold medal in World Archery Youth Championships

India clinched a gold medal in the compound junior mixed team event of the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid.

  • Sukhbeer Singh and Raginee Markoo prevailed over their Swiss opponents Andrea Vallaro and Janine Hunsperger 152-147 to clinch their second medal of the tournament.

Gokulam Kerala FC wins Durand Cup

In football, Gokulam Kerala FC won the 129th Durand Cup, defeating heavyweights Mohun Bagan 2-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata
