PM-LVMY Yojana launched by the Government

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has recently approved a new scheme called ‘Pradhan Mantri Laghu Vyapari Maan-dhan Yojana‘ that offers pension coverage to the trading community.

  • The main feature of PMLVM Yojana 2019 is that each subscriber of the scheme shall receive minimum assured lifelong pension of Rs 3000/- per month after attaining the age of 60 years.

Centre proposes ‘Metrolite’ train for small cities

The Centre has proposed light urban rail transit system – ‘Metrolite’ – in small cities and towns having lower projection of ridership, with each train having three coaches and a restricted speed of 25 kmph.

  • The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has issued standard specifications of the ‘Metrolite’ system which will be developed on surface and elevated stretches.
  • According to the ministry, the ‘Metrolite’, which can be developed at a lower cost in comparison with existing metro system, will also act as feeder system to high capacity Metro.

GST rate on electric vehicles reduced from 12% to 5%

GST Council has decided to reduce GST rate on electric vehicles (EV) from 12% to 5% and 18% to 5% on EV chargers from August 1, the Finance Ministry announced. Moreover, the council also approved exemption from GST on hiring of electric buses by local authorities. This follows government announcing ₹1.5-lakh income tax deduction on loan interest for purchasing EVs.

UP becomes No. 1 in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna

Uttar Pradesh has become number one in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna in the country. As per the statement released by state government 1.95 crores people have been given insurance cover under the scheme till 31 march 2019.

Gujarat tops in solar rooftop installations

In the area of solar rooftop installations, Gujarat has stood first in the country with total 261.97 megawatts (MW) of installed rooftop solar capacity as on July 23, 2019. As per the Central government data, total rooftop solar installations in India is 1700.54 MW.

Delhi among cheapest cities to relocate: Moving Price Index 2019

German online moving company, Movinga has revealed its International Moving Price Index for 2019. The 2019 Moving Index, a study of 85 cities, found which are the costliest cities to start afresh in.

  • According to its International Moving Price Index for 2019, San Francisco is the most expensive city to move to.
  • Delhi is among the world’s cheapest cities to move to. Delhi was ranked 85th in terms of individual relocation.

India’s GDP growth to be flat at 6.8% in FY20: Report

The economy will not be able to achieve the official forecast of 7 percent growth in FY20, making it a second consecutive year of sub-7 percent expansion, according to a  report by Singaporean lender DBS.

  • It estimated FY20 growth to stay at 6.8 percent, the same as FY19. The economic survey earlier this month had pegged growth to rise to 7 percent.

NITI Aayog partners with WhatsApp to promote women entrepreneurs

NITI Aayog and Facebook-owned WhatsApp, under the aegis of its Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), have announced a partnership to support the growth of a robust ecosystem to promote women entrepreneurs in India.

  • WhatsApp, in collaboration with NITI Aayog, will announce an annual calendar of events aimed at capacity building of women entrepreneurs and develop specific programmes aimed at addressing challenges faced by women entrepreneurs. The initiative would target the registered users of WEP.

Reliance Industries become India’s highest-ranking company in the “Fortune Global 500 list 2019”

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has become the top-ranked Indian company to feature in the latest “Fortune Global 500 list 2019” with a jump of 42 places. It ranked 106 in the list.

  • Reliance Industries (RIL) overtakes state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), which had been the top-ranked Indian company on the list and was first on the Fortune India 500 list which was started in 2010.

Lasith Malinga bids adieu to international cricket

Sri Lanka’s unorthodox fast bowler Lasith Malinga played his last international game against Bangladesh. He thus announced his retirement from international cricket.

IAS Ajay Kumar Bhalla appointed as OSD in MHA

The government has made key appointments in several ministries. IAS officer Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who was Secretary in the Ministry of Power, has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs with immediate effect.

  • IAS officer Subhash Chandra Garg, who was Secretary in Department of Economic Affairs in Finance Ministry will now be the Power Secretary.
  • Senior IAS officer Atanu Chakraborty, has been appointed as Secretary in Department of Economic Affairs


OBITUARIES

Trade union leader, three-time MP A.K. Roy passes away

Former Lok Sabha MP and founder of Marxist Coordination Committee (MCC) A K Roy passed awayfollowing multiple organ failure. He was 90.
