President of India inaugurates Global Clubfoot Conference

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Global Clubfoot Conference being organised by the CURE India in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, in New Delhi.

  • Clubfoot is one of the most common orthopaedic birth defects. It can cause permanent disability if not treated early. This affects the child’s mobility and confidence. Inevitably, education and schooling suffer – and the child cannot fulfil his or her potential.

Maximum age of joining NPS increased from 60 to 65 years: Finance Ministry

The Ministry of Finance increased the maximum age of joining the National Pension System (NPS) from the existing 60 years to 65 years under NPS – Private Sector (i.e. all citizen and corporate model).

  • In accordance with several initiatives undertaken by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) during the last few years, now any Indian citizen, resident or non-resident, between the age of 60 – 65 years, can join NPS and continue up to the age of 70 years.

Haryana announces pension for Hindi ‘satyagrahis,’ WW-II veterans

The Haryana government announced lifetime monthly pension to the Hindi ‘satyagrahis’ and those from the state who were jailed during the Emergency in 1975, hiked financial assistance to veterans of the Second World War (WW-II) and their widows, and provide 10-hour power supply to the agriculture sector.

Allahabad to get India’s first black buck conservation reserve

Uttar Pradesh cabinet decided to make India’s first conservation reserve for black buck in Allahabad’s Meja. It is believed that the decision taken for protection of black deer will also help in wooing tourists there.

Assam signs MoUs with Singapore for skilling state’s youth

Assam government signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and Terms of Reference (ToR) with Singapore for skilling youth of the state. An MoU for Guwahati City Greening was inked between the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority and Singapore Corporation Enterprise. 

India, Kazakhstan armies’ joint exercise from Nov 2 in HP

Troops of Indian and Kazakhstan armies will engage in a 14-day joint exercise ‘Prabal Dostyk 2017’ from November 2 in Bakloh belt of Himachal Pradesh to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange skills and experiences.

  • This is second joint military exercise between the two countries. The first edition of ‘Prabal Dostyk’ was held in Kazakhstan in 2016.

CCEA gives nod to Rs10,000 crore SBA for fertiliser subsidy

The government gave ex-post facto clearance to implementation of the Special Banking Arrangement (SBA) of Rs10,000 crore for payment of outstanding claims towards fertiliser subsidy in 2016-17.

  • The government is making available urea and 21 grades of P&K (phosphate and potassium) fertilisers to farmers at subsidised prices through fertiliser manufacturers and importers. To make funds available to fertiliser companies against their subsidy claims, the finance ministry had approved the SBA of Rs10,000 crore with government interest liability limited to G-Secs rate.

Sehwag Gate inaugurated at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has named a gate of the Feroz Shah Kotla ground after former India opener Virender Sehwag. The Gate No. 2 of the stadium, in Delhi, was named as the ‘Virender Sehwag Gate’.

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah became the number one bowler in the latest ICC T20I rankings Player Rankings. He has regained the T20I top spot pushing aside Pakistan spinner Imad Wasim.

Paytm Payments Bank (PPB) has appointed former ICICI Bank executive, Sudhanshu Jain as its Chief Financial Officer. He will play a key role in overseeing its finances and expansion plans.

Y.C. Modi is new NIA Director-General

Y.C. Modi, a 1984-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer, took over the charge of the country’s premier anti-terror organisation — the National Investigation Agency (NIA) — as its new Director-General. Mr. Modi succeeds Sharad Kumar.

Bharti AXA Life appoints Vikas Seth as CEO
