Fino Paytech inks deal with ICICI group companies to distribute insurance products

Fino Paytech, which just received the Reserve Bank of India’s licence to launch a payments bank, has inked a deal with ICICI group companies to distribute insurance products and tied up with Exide Life insurance to sell products via its distribution channel.


PM Modi inaugurates ‘Swachhagraha’ exhibition

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated an exhibition titled “Swachhagraha – Bapu Ko Karyanjali – Ek Abhiyan, Ek Pradarshani” in New Delhi to mark the 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s first experiment of Satyagraha in Champaran.


Celebrations begin to mark Champaran Satyagraha’s 100th year

The year-long celebrations to mark the 100th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s first major resistance against the British rule, popularly known as the Champaran Satyagraha, began in Patna.

  • Mahatma Gandhi launched his Satyagraha — a non-violent agitation — against the forced cultivation of indigo by the British rulers in Champaran district in Bihar on April 10, 1917.
  • CM Nitish Kumar is also set to launch a “Gandhi Smriti Yatra” from Champaran on April 15.

Indian, Bangladeshi firms sign MoUs worth over $9 bn

Indian and Bangladeshi firms have signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth over $9 billion designed to deepen cooperation in various sectors, including power, oil and gas.


Modi, Australian PM inaugurated TERI-Deakin Nanobiotechnology Centre

Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull is on a 4-day visit to India. He and PM Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the TERI-Deakin Nanobiotechnology Centre in Gurugram, Haryana.

  • The centre offers joint Ph.D. programme by TDNBC, India, and Deakin University (DU), Australia, where selected students are provided fellowships, jointly supervised by both TDNBC and DU, and receive degree from DU.

India, Russia team up to promote innovation, R&D

 India has signed a joint declaration with Russia to promote innovation and the R&D ecosystem between the two countries.

  • The declaration was signed between the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation on the sidelines of the Global R&D Summit 2017 in Bengaluru.

North India to get DNA bank for wildlife in Bareilly

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) here is setting up a DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) bank for wild animals, the first of its kind in North India.

  • A DNA bank exists in Hyderabad at present. And the bank in Bareilly would be the second after this.

India Will Host its Own Mobile World Congress in September

Following the yearly global attention drawn by the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that takes place in Barcelona, India is all set to have its own version this year, for the first time, from September 27 to 29 in New Delhi.


Andhra Pradesh to introduce ‘Ammaku Vandanam’ in schools

A unique programme to pay tribute to mothers will be introduced in the government-run schools in Andhra Pradesh from this year.

  • Under ‘Ammaku Vandanam’ — mother worship — the school children will take the blessings of their mothers and may also do ‘paada pooja’ (washing her feet).
  • Inspired by a programme in an Indonesian school, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in February mooted the idea of ‘Ammaku Vandanam’.

Sand artist Sudarsan to represent India in Moscow

Internationally acclaimed sand artist from Odisha Sudarsan Pattnaik will represent India in the 10th Moscow Sand Art Championship 2017 to be be held from April 22-28 at Kolomenskoye, Moscow in Russia.


Flipkart buys eBay India business

Flipkart announced its biggest funding round by buying rival eBay’s Indian operations.

  • As part of this transaction, eBay Inc has put $500 million in Flipkart and sold its India business to the Bengaluru firm.

Possible Venus ‘twin’ discovered by scientists

Astronomers, using NASA’s Kepler space telescope, have discovered a Venus-like planet orbiting a dim star that is one-fifth the diameter of our Sun and is located 219 light years away from Earth.

Low-cost carrier SpiceJet unveiled ‘Khel Yatra’ for the underprivileged children in Delhi as its chief sponsor.

  • An inter-school 100 meter athletic competition Khel Yatra is a special initiative supported by the airline to identify and appreciate young budding talents from the underprivileged sections of the society.
