Central government announces 10% reservation for Ex-Agniveers in BSF recruitment
The Central government has announced that 10 percent reservation will be given to Ex-Agniveers in the BSF recruitment. In a notification issued by the Home Ministry, the government has amended the recruitment rules of the Border Security Force.
- The amended rules state that Ex-Agniveers will be exempted from the physical efficiency test.
- The Government has also announced that the upper age limit will be relaxable up to five years for the candidates of the first batch of Ex-Agniveers.
Maharashtra will introduce 4th women’s policy to give more opportunities to women: Devendra Fadanvis
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis informed the Legislative Council that the state will introduce the fourth women’s policy to give more opportunities to women by considering the issues of women from all groups.
- On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe tabled a proposal to provide equal and dignified positions to women in all sectors.
- Mr Fadanvis also announced that the government will introduce a rehabilitation scheme for those above 18 years old girls from the orphanage.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh announces exclusive women’s portal for research grants and funds
Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh announced an exclusive women’s portal for research grants and funds.
- The portal will become functional with effect from the first of April this year. Addressing the International Women’s Day celebration programme of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi, the Minister informed that the Special Call inviting proposals from Women Scientists will open on the same day.

Colombia opens military service to women for first time in 25 years
Colombia has opened military service to women for the first time in 25 years. A cohort of 1,296 women have been enlisted in Colombia’s Army last month, February.
- Colombia has long had compulsory military service for men ages 18 to 24. The army relies heavily on those young recruits to staff bases, protect infrastructure and carry out administrative tasks, while its professional soldiers confront drug trafficking gangs and rebel groups.
- This year, officials allowed females in the same age range to voluntarily join the military, in what the army says is part of an effort to strengthen the role of women in its ranks.
BANKING & FINANCE
Punjab National Bank signs MoU with Central Warehousing Corporation
Punjab National Bank, nation’s public sector bank and Central Warehousing Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate financing under e-NWR (Electronic Negotiable Warehousing Receipt).
- The partnership is aimed at providing easy access to finance to farmers/ food processors/ traders against the pledge of agriculture commodities stored in CWC warehouses.
India’s digital payments market will more than triple to $10 trillion by 2026: Report
In a country witnessing rapid growth, it comes as no surprise that India also has one of the fastest-growing fintech landscapes in the world, driven primarily by the advancement in the digital payments segment. Boston Consulting Group (BCG), in collaboration with PhonePe, India’s leading digital payments company, unveiled a report titled, “Digital payments in India: A US$10 trillion opportunity”.
- India’s digital payments landscape has witnessed phenomenal growth over the past five years. As per the report, India’s digital payments market is at an inflection point and is expected to increase more than threefold from the current US$3 trillion to US$10 trillion by 2026.
- As a result of this unprecedented growth, digital payments (non-cash) will constitute 2 out of 3 payment transactions by 2026.
Govt ropes in cryptocurrency trade in anti-money laundering law
The government has imposed money laundering provisions on cryptocurrencies or virtual assets as it looks to tighten oversight of digital assets.
- In a gazette notification, the Finance Ministry said the anti-money laundering legislation has been applied to crypto trading, safekeeping and related financial services.
- After this, Indian crypto exchanges will have to report suspicious activity to the Financial Intelligence Unit India (FIU-IND).

Defence ministry inks ₹667 crore contract with HAL to procure 6 Dornier aircraft
The Ministry of Defence signed a contract for the procurement of six Dornier-228 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at a cost of Rs 667 crore.
- The MoD said the addition will boost IAF’s capabilities in the Northeast and the country’s island territories.
- The aircraft was used by IAF for route transport roles and communication duties. Subsequently, it has also been used for training of transport pilots of the IAF.

Rohit Jawa to replace Sanjiv Mehta as HUL managing director and CEO
Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) said Rohit Jawa will take over as the new Managing Director & CEO of the company from June 27, 2023. He will join the company as CEO designate and whole-time director from April 1, 2023.
- He will also take over as President, Unilever South Asia. After 10 years at the helm of HUL, Sanjiv Mehta is set to retire from the company.
- Mr. Jawa is currently the Chief of Transformation for Unilever in London since January 2022. He had started his career with HUL as a management trainee in 1988.

Rudraprayag and Tehri the two districts in Uttarakhand are facing the highest risk of landslides, according to satellite data collected over the past two decades.
- Data collected by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has highlighted that Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal are at the highest risk of facing landslides, having seen the highest number of landslide incidents in the past 20 years.
