CBDT notifies PAN-Aadhaar interchangeability

The apex body for direct taxes has amended over 100 forms and returns to provide for interchangeability between permanent account number (PAN) and Aadhaar number.

  • The Union Budget presented in July had amended Section 139A of the Income-tax Act, 1961 to provide for interchangeability of PAN and Aadhaar number. However, an amendment to give effect to this change in various forms or returns and statements prescribed was pending.
  • The CBDT has now issued a notification to amend the Income-tax Rules, 1962 (Rules) to enable quoting of the Aadhar number instead of PAN in various forms and documents as specified under the tax laws.

Chhattisgarh: Three-member committee formed to probe phone-tapping

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel directed to form a three-member committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Home Sunil Kujur to look into the matter of phone-tapping.

  • The committee will conduct a detailed investigation of the complaints and present a report within one month.

Gujarat Govt gives approval to world’s first CNG terminal at Bhavnagar port

Gujarat Government has given approval to the world’s first CNG terminal at Bhavnagar port. The joint venture of United Kingdom-based Foresight Group and Mumbai-based Padmanabh Mafatlal Group, will invest 1,900 crore rupees to set up a CNG terminal at Bhavnagar port.

Indian Oil to set up 2G ethanol plant in Panipat

The Ministry of Environment has granted clearance to the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) to set up a ₹ 766-crore 2G ethanol plant in Haryana’s Panipat district. The Ethanol produced in the plant will be exclusively used to blend transportation fuels. The project also aims at doubling farmers income.

Dharmendra Pradhan visits UAE for ADIPEC

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited the UAE to participate in the Inaugural Ministerial Session of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC).

  • ADIPEC has become one of the most influential global conferences in the oil and gas sector, attracting 1,45,000 attendees, including ministers, global industry CEOs, policymakers and leading energy companies.

World Para Athletics C’ships: Sandeep, Sumit create world records

Indian duo of Sandeep Chaudhary and Sumit created world records on way to their gold and silver medals respectively in the F64 javelin event of the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, UAE.

  • Sandeep hurled the javelin to a distance of 66.18m to better his own world record of 65.80m in F44 category, while Sumit sent the spear to a distance of 62.88m to clinch the silver and better his own F64 world record of 60.45m.

Sundar Singh Gurjar wins gold in World Para Athletics Championships

Top javelin thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar has claimed the second gold for India with a season best performance at the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships.

Deepak Chahar becomes first Indian to bag T20I hat-trick

India pacer Deepak Chahar recorded the best-ever figures in the Twenty20 Internationals when he returned figures 6 for 7 runs in 3.2 overs against Bangladesh at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The previous record of 6 for 8 by Sri Lankan mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis against Zimbabwe in 2012.

  • Chahar also became the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game as he wrapped up the Bangladesh innings with the wickets of Shafiul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Aminul Islam in three consecutive deliveries.

The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, has resigned amid turmoil following his disputed re-election last month. He has been in power for nearly 14 years. He left the post after losing the support of the army and the police.

Tata Literature Live to honour Shanta Gokhale with Lifetime Achievement award

The Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award for 2019 was conferred on writer, translator and film critic Shanta Gokhale. She, born in 1939 in the town of Dahanu in Maharashtra, recently published her memoir One Foot on the Ground: A Life Told Through the Body. She received the Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2015. Poet K Satchidanandan was named the Tata Literature Live! Poet Laureate for 2019.
