Postal department, SBI tie up for cashless transactions

Under the agreement, the postal department will promote ‘SBI buddy e-wallet’ and POS machines to facilitate digitalisation of cash transactions for cashless transactions in the post office counters for booking of Speed Post and Registered Post articles.

Exim Bank entends $1.6 bn loan to Bangladesh India Friendship Power Co.

The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has extended $1.6 billion loan to the Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL) for financing 1,320 MW ultra-super-critical Maitree Super Thermal Power Project in Bangladesh.

Self-certification of bank accounts by Apr. 30 or closure

As part of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) compliance, the bank accounts opened between July 1, 2014, and August 31, 2015, are required to submit self certification forms by April 30 this year failing which the accounts will be blocked.

  • The transactions by the account holder in such blocked accounts may, thereafter, be permitted once the self-certification is obtained and due diligence completed.

Govt reduces number of centrally sponsored schemes to 28

The government has reduced the number of centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) to 28 umbrella schemes from 66

Cabinet approves signing of FOU on hydrocarbons with Bangladesh

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved signing of Framework of Understanding (FoU) on cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector with Bangladesh following companies from both the countries signing MoU worth over $9 billion.

Centre approves potato procurement in UP

The Union Agriculture Ministry has approved procurement of potato under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) in Uttar Pradesh for 2016-17.

  • According to a release, a maximum of 100,000 tonnes may be procured under the scheme by the state agency.

Yogi Adityanath govt scraps Samajwadi Pension Scheme in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government has scrapped the Samajwadi Pension Scheme of the previous Samajwadi Party government and ordered a detailed review of its beneficiaries.

  • The scheme provides a pension of Rs500 per month to BPL families. The chief minister directed the officials to review doubling the pension amount of Rs500 each in the Widow, Divyang and Old Age Pension Scheme and present it before the cabinet.

West Bengal’s Haldia port cleanest in India

The ranking of all 13 Indian ports was conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI) during the ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ observed from March 16-31.

Bengaluru ranked top paying city for professionals in India

Bengaluru has been ranked the top paying city for professionals in India with an average yearly salary of Rs 14.6 lakh. It was followed by Mumbai and Hyderabad with average yearly salaries of Rs 14.2 lakh and Rs 13.6 lakh respectively.
