Modi leaves for Philippines to attend ASEAN Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for the Philippines, where he will participate in various bilateral and multilateral programmes, including the India-ASEAN Summit.His visit to the Philippines to attend the India-ASEAN Summit symbolises the country’s commitment to deepening ties with the ASEAN member states and the Indo-Pacific region as part of the ‘Act East Policy’.
India sixth most vulnerable country facing extreme weather events: Report
According to global climate risk index (CRI), a report by Germanwatch, an independent Berlin-based development and environmental organisation, India is the sixth most vulnerable country in the world in terms of facing extreme weather events with Haiti, Zimbabwe, Fiji, Sri Lanka and Vietnam taking top five positions in the fresh list of nations facing climate risk.
Gurugram to have North India’s biggest butterfly park
Foundation stone for Butterfly Conservatory Park was laid in Gurugram, which will be developed on 15 acres in Sector 52 of Gurugram and will be the biggest butterfly park in North India.
- The state Forest Department is setting up the park to conserve the species of butterflies that are near extinction because of the massive urbanisation in the area.
Varanasi tops list of India’s most polluted cities
With an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 491 on the 500-point scale, Varanasi has become the most polluted Indian city among 42 cities, according to data from Central Pollution Control Board. The concentration of PM2.5 was eight times the safe limit, indicating a public health emergency in the city. Gurugram was the 2nd most polluted with an AQI of 480.

YES Bank’s fintech survey to study ecosystem worldwide
YES Bank is all set to launch a first-of-its-kind fintech survey. Called India Fintech Opportunities Review, the study will cover India and a few major fintech markets in the world.
- A research initiative of YES FINTECH, which is the bank’s innovation programme to accelerate fintech start-ups, the survey will cover more than 1,000 firms globally.
Mumbai to host Asian Bankers Association summit
For the first time, the nation’s financial capital will host the 34th annual conference of the Asian Bankers Association (ABA). The two-day conference will be held in the megapolis from November 16 and will be hosted by State Bank, with the theme of ‘Asia’s turn to transform’.
- The this year’s summit will discuss the impact of the ongoing global downturn on the outlook of the Asian economies; economic consequences of the Brexit in March 2019 on Asia, the America-first policy of the Trump administration; implications of fintech on banks, among others.
