World Bank approves $375-mn loan for India’s first waterway project

The World Bank has approved a $375 million loan to India’s first waterway project.

  • The National Waterway 1 project is to create a water transport fairway on a 1,360-km stretch of the Ganga river between Varanasi and Haldia.

RBI comes out with new corrective action plan for banks

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that capital, asset quality and profitability would be the basis of the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework on which the banks would be monitored and has defined three kinds of risk thresholds.

  • In a notification issued by RBI, the mandatory action that would be taken when a bank breaches the risk threshold includes
    restriction on dividend payment/remittance of profits,
    restriction on branch expansion, higher provisions,
    restriction on management compensation and director’s fees.

Government sets up a panel to examine framework for Virtual Currencies

The Government has set up an Inter-Disciplinary Committee to examine the existing framework with regard to Virtual Currencies like Bitcoins

  • The Committee will be chaired by Special Secretary of Economic Affairs, Shri Dinesh Sharma.
  • The Finance Ministry stated that the committee will suggest measures for dealing with such currencies including issues relating to consumer protection and money laundering.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu relaunches ‘Adarana Scheme’

Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the re-launch of ‘Adarana scheme’ for improving traditional occupations.

  • It is for the uplift and all-round development of people belonging to the Backward Classes

Chhattisgarh bans liquor in villages with population upto 3k

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has announced the ban on liquor sale in villages having a population up to 3,000.

  • Earlier, the state had banned the sale of liquor in villages with population up to 2,000

Himachal bags Krishi Karman Award 2015-16

The Union Ministry of Agriculture has selected Himachal Pradesh for the Krishi Karman Award 2015-16 for commendable increase in food grains production.


Haryana launches e-sewa app to provide information about welfare schemes

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar has launched a mobile application to inform people about various welfare schemes and programmes of the state government.

  • In the first phase, information about more than 250 schemes and programmes of 30 different departments has been made available on the e-Sewa mobile app

BHEL and Indian Railways tie-up for Rooftop SPV Systems

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has recently bagged one more major order of 2 MWp Roof Top SPV System to be installed at Diesel loco Modernisation Works (DMW), Patiala.

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals is an engineering and manufacturing company, owned by the GoI.

Petrol, diesel prices to change every day from May 1 in 5 cities

As per the announcement of government from May 1, 2017, petrol and diesel prices will change every day in sync with international rates.

  • State-owned fuel retailers Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) will launch a pilot for daily price revision in five select cities which are Puducherry, Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, Udaipur in Rajasthan, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and Chandigarh from May 1, 2017.

Tata Motors arm launches Made-in-India robot

TAL Manufacturing Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, has launched a Made-in-India robot catering primarily to micro, small and medium industries

  • The indigenously built robot — TAL Brabo — is available in two variants of payloads of 2 kg and 10 kg, priced at Rs5 lakh and Rs7 lakh, respectively.
  • This is the first robot conceptualised and designed in India.

  • The train’s path is across France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan before heading into China.

Nepal, China to hold first-ever joint military drill

Nepal and China will be holding their first-ever joint military exercise from April 16 to 25 in Kathmandu

  • The military exercise is named ‘Sagarmatha Friendship-2017’.
  • Sagarmatha is the Nepali name of Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak, that is bordering between Nepal and China.
