PM Narendra Modi unveils national emblem on new Parliament building
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the National Emblem cast on the roof of the new Parliament building. The emblem is made of bronze and is 6.5m in height, and took over nine months to cast, said senior Central Public Works Department (CPWD) officials.

  • A senior CPWD official said, “The structure weighs 9,500kg and is 4.4m in width. It has been cast at the top of the Central Foyer of the New Parliament Building. A supporting structure of steel weighing around 6,500kg has been constructed to support the Emblem.”

Meghalaya set to invest Rs 300 crore in early childhood education programmes
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the Government has earmarked Rs 300 crore from the externally aided projects to make investment in early childhood education programmes. He said that different interventions will be made through the programme to ensure that a child grows up in an environment where the entire learning exercise is productive.

Nagpur Metro And NHAI Sets New Record For Building Longest Double Decker Flyover
The Nagpur metro rail project in Maharashtra has set a new record for building the longest double-decker viaduct with an elevated highway, and Metro Rail supported on a single-column pier.

  • Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records have recognised this engineering feat. They have also recognised another record of constructing three metro stations on a double-decker viaduct.
  • This project has led to savings on land acquisition and construction costs and also reduced the travel time to the city’s airport.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurates 6th National Conclave on Mines and Minerals
Union Minister for Mines Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the 6th National Conclave on Mines and Minerals in New Delhi. Joshi said, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mineral Mining Sector has reached its zenith of growth and under his vision mineral production is scaling new heights.

  • He said, after getting suggestions from various stakeholders Government has brought many changes in the mining policies. He also stressed Self Reliance on the Mining Sector.

Elon Musk moves to end $44 Billion Deal to buy Twitter
Less than three months ago, Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, struck a blockbuster $44 billion deal to buy Twitter. He proclaimed that the company had “tremendous potential.”

  • Now he wants to back out of the acquisition altogether.
  • In a regulatory filing prepared by his lawyers, Mr. Musk said he was terminating the Twitter deal because of a continuing disagreement over the number of spam accounts on the platform. He claimed that Twitter had not provided information necessary to calculate the number of those accounts — which the company has said is lower than 5 percent — and that it had appeared to make inaccurate statements.

Jonny Bairstow, Marizanne Kapp wins ICC Player of the Month for June 2022
International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ICC Player of the Month awards for June 2022. England’s in-form batter Jonny Bairstow bagged the Men’s Player of the Month title while South Africa’s power hitting batter Marizanne Kapp was awarded with Women’s Player of the Month.

India’s GM Gukesh wins Gijon Chess Masters
India’s D. Gukesh won the Gijon Chess Masters, with eight points out nine rounds. GM Alexandr Fier of Brazil finished second with 6.5 points while International Master Pedro Antonio Gines of Spain came third scoring six points. In the ninth and last round, Gukesh drew with Cuba’s GM Martinez Duany.

  • With the win, Gukesh took his FIDE rating to 2693. If he crosses the Elo rating of 2700, Gukesh could well become the sixth Indian to do so after Viswanathan Anand, Krishnan Sasikiran, P. Harikrishna, Vidit Gujarati and B. Adhiban.

ISSF World Cup, South Korea: India’s Arjun Babuta wins first gold medal
Arjun Babuta of India earned his first gold medal in shooting at the Changwon, South Korea, International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup stage. Final saw him overcome silver medalist for Tokyo 2020 Lucas Kozeniesky of the USA 17-9.

  • Arjun Babuta had previously outperformed Lucas Kozeniesky in the eight-men ranking round with a score of 261.1 to 260.4.

India’s Pallavi Singh bags the Mrs Universe Divine Crown in South Korea
Pallavi Singh, from India, has bagged the Mrs Universe Divine Title at the finals held at Yeosu City, South Korea. Pallavi Singh hails from Kanpur. The contest saw participation from 110 countries.

  • Pallavi Singh was the only contestant from Asia in the Mrs Universe contest.
  • Pallavi Singh won the title of Mrs India held in Jaipur in 2020. She then won the title of Mrs Indo-Asia Universe in the Asia-level competition held in Delhi in October 2021. She was the contestant from India and Asia in the Mrs Universe contest, which saw her taking away the crown.


OBITUARIES

Renowned archaeologist Padmashree Enamul Haque passes away
Eminent archaeologist, historian and former Director-General of the Bangladesh National Museum Dr. Enamul Haque passed away in Dhaka. He was 85. Dr. Enamul Haque was conferred with Padma Shri for the year 2020 for his work on Bengal’s Iconography and terracotta art.

  • Dr. Enamul Haque was instrumental in setting up the Bangladesh National Museum.

Meenakshi Lekhi launched ‘Swadhinta Sangram Na Surviro’ book
Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi has launched a book in Gujarati commemorating the contributions of freedom fighters at a function. The book, ‘Swadhinata Sangram Na Surviro’, celebrates 75 freedom fighters and shares the stories of the sacrifices made by them for the country.
