BRICS bank to issue Chinese yuan, Indian rupee bonds

The Brics New Development Bank (NDB) has planned to issue bonds twice this year, one denominated in Chinese yuan and the other in Indian rupee.

  • Masala Bonds are rupee-denominated bonds issued outside India.

Bank Boards Bureau evolves ‘GRAF’ for PSBs

The Bank Boards Bureau (BBB) has evolved a Governance, Reward and Accountability Framework (GRAF) for public sector banks to ensure that they have the ability to compete successfully with private sector banks, small finance and payments banks, foreign banks and non-banking finance companies.


IRDAI launches web portal for insurers

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has launched a web portal – isnp.irda.gov.in – for insurers that will allow them to register and sell policies online.


PM launches GNFC’s cashless/less cash township model across 12 States

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has launched in Nagpur a cashless/less cash township model, developed by Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GNFC), across 81 townships in 12 States.

  • GNFC’s township at Bharuch in Gujarat became India’s first cent per cent cashless township after demonetisation.

PM launches BHIM-Aadhar –a digital payment platform on Ambedkar Jayanti in Nagpur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of initiatives on the 126th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in Nagpur. He launched the BHIM Aadhaar platform for merchants, Cash back and Referral bonus schemes for BHIM and declared about 75 townships going less-cash.

  • The Prime Minister also launched two new incentive schemes for the BHIM – Cash back and Referral bonus – with an outlay of Rs. 495 crore for a period of six months.

Congress launches website on Ambedkar

The Congress has launched “Quest for Equity” website on the occasion of Dr B.R. Ambedkar on his 126th birth anniversary.

  • The website contains pictures of his achievements and a copy of the original Constitution of India.

Habibganj becomes the First Railway Station on Indian Railways to be Fully Managed by a Private Party

M/s. Bansal Pathways Ltd – an SPV of Bansal Construction Works and Prakash Asphalting and Toll Highways (India) has taken over the management of the Habibganj station (in Bhopal) – thus making Habibganj emerging as the first Railway station on Indian Railways to be managed by a private party, and marking it as the historic day for station redevelopment programme of Indian Railways.


Haryana launches ‘Operation Durga’ to ensure women safety in the state

Haryana government has launched ‘Operation Durga’ to ensure women safety in the state, under which the police caught at least 72 eve-teasers on its first day.

  • Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had launched ‘Anti-Romeo squads’ to keep a check on eve-teasing in public areas.

With a motive to enlighten children in naxal-affected areas of Jharkhand’s Palamau district, Jharkhand Police has initiated Tare Zameen Par program to encourage children to lead happy lives.


UP Govt, Centre sign MoU for ‘Power for All’ scheme

Uttar Pradesh government and the Centre signed Memorandum of Understanding for the ‘Power for All’ scheme in Lucknow.

  • The aim of this scheme is to provide 24-hour quality electric power supply in the state by October 2018 and electric connection to every house and agriculture field by 2019.

Indian wins top prize at UN challenge for open source tool

Indian software engineer Abdulqadir Rashik, also an entrepreneur, won the ‘Unite Ideas UNGAViz Textual Analysis and Visualisation Challenge’ for his ‘Global Policy’, an open-source tool that enables users to search and interactively view General Assembly resolutions to gain a deeper understanding of the voting patterns and decisions made by United Nations Member States.


Assam celebrates Rongali Bihu

Rongali or the Bohag (spring) Bihu starts on the last day of the Assamese calendar month of Chot, which normally falls on April 13 or 14 annually. The first day is known as Goru Bihu and it is dedicated to the cattle.

Sixteen-time world champion Pankaj Advani has won his sixth Asian Billiards title and seventh overall Asian championship by defeating his compatriot Sourav Kothari in the Asian Billiards Championship in Chandigarh.
