PM Narendra Modi dedicates scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari to the nation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned India’s first indigenous Scorpene-class submarine Kalvari into the Navy at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard. The 1,565-tonne INS Kalvari is India’s first new diesel-electric submarine in 17 years and will be followed by five other Scorpene submarines under the ₹23,000-crore “Project-75”. Named after the first Foxtort-class submarine, INS Kalvari was inducted into the Navy on December 8, 1967.
Home ministry releases Rs 174 crore to six states for border development
The home ministry has released Rs 174 crore to six states having an international border for development of infrastructure in forward areas.
- The states that will be benefited include Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Priority will be given to those villages which are identified by border guarding forces for speedy development of infrastructure.
India hosted 4th India-Australia-Japan trilateral meeting
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar hosted the 4th India-Australia-Japan trilateral meeting with his Australian and Japanese counterparts in New Delhi. Issues of maritime security, counter terrorism and economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region were discussed.
Delhi Govt sets up panel to suggest norms for private hospitals
The Delhi government under Dr. Kirti Bhushan set-up a nine-member expert committee to look into the functioning of private hospitals and nursing homes and recommend norms to be followed the clinics, including capping the profit margin on medicines and consumables.
Telangana develops app to connect citizens, technicians
The Telangana government has announced to launch a mobile application ‘Urban Genie’ which will enable citizens in urban areas across the state to find certified technicians and workers. The service will be available in over 70 municipal towns and cities. Job seeking technicians can also register themselves with the app, following which the government will provide training.
Japan to offer grant for vocational training centre in Rajasthan
Japan has decided to offer a grant worth 8.4 million Yen for the construction of a vocational training centre for poor women and youth in Rajasthan’s Baran district. The Grant Assistance for development projects are designed to meet the diverse basic human needs of the people in developing countries.
Fino Payments Bank signs Rajcomp as business correspondent
Fino Payments Bank has signed up Rajasthan government’s Rajcomp as its corporate business correspondent to give banking services to people in the state.
- Under the agreement, all the 55,000 e-Mitra points of Rajcomp across the state will act as banking points of Fino Payments Bank.

The World Bank announced that it will stop financing oil and gas exploration and extraction from 2019, seeking to boost the global economy’s shift to cleaner energy.

AIIB approves USD 335 mn loan for Bangalore metro project
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a USD 335 million loan to finance a 100-per cent electric metro rail project in Bangalore.

RBI imposes restrictions on Corporation Bank as its bad loans crosses 10%
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed certain restrictions on Corporation Bank on carrying out banking activities as its share of bad loans rose sharply. This makes Corporation Bank eighth bank to face restriction in a span of 10 months.
- Once PCA is triggered the bank faces restrictions on expenses such as opening branches, recruiting staff and giving increments to employees. Further, the bank can disburse loans only to those companies whose borrowing is above investment grades.

World youth champion Sachin Siwach has been named the Asian Boxing Confederation’s best youth boxer of the year after winning an online poll conducted by the continental body.

Lucknow’s Jitesh Singh Deo named Mr India 2017
Jitesh Singh Deo from Lucknow was declared the winner of the 2017 Mr India pageant. Indian footballer Prathamesh Maulingkar won the title of Mr India Supranational and will compete at Mr Supranational 2018. Abhi Khajuria was declared the first-runner up while Pavan Rao was the second runner-up. Actress Kangana Ranaut felicitated the winners.
