DPIIT launches app for Intellectual Property Rights for SMEs and startups

Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), launched the website and mobile application Learn to Protect, Secure and Maximise Your Innovation on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in New Delhi.

  • The modules of the e-learning platform, i.e L2Pro India IP e-learning Platform and the L2Pro India Mobile App, are not only for startups but also for small and medium enterprises.

Andhra Pradesh launches YSR Rytu Bharosa – PM Kisan scheme

The Andhra Pradesh government launched YSR Rytu Bharosa – PM Kisan scheme for farmers’ welfare in the state from Sarvepalli in Nellore district. An amount of Rs 13,500 will be given to farmers in three instalments under this scheme.

Air India becomes first airline globally to use ‘Taxibot’ on Airbus flight

Air India scripted history by becoming the first airline in the world to use a TaxiBot on an Airbus A320 aircraft operating a commercial flight with passengers onboard.

  • A TaxiBot (Taxiing Robot), is a pilot-controlled semi-robotic towbar-less aircraft tractor used as alternate taxiing equipment.
  • Air India Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Ashwani Lohani flagged off AI665 from Delhi to Mumbai.

First National Hindi Science writers conference held in Lucknow

The first National Hindi Science writers conference was held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh with an aim to promote use of Hindi and other Vernacular languages in science writing.

  • Science writers from across the country were gathered to discuss ways to promote Hindi and Indian languages in the field of science writing. 

2nd phase of LOTUS-HR launched in New Delhi

The 2nd phase of an Indo-Dutch project called Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse, or LOTUS-HR was launched at Barapullah drain in New Delhi.

  • This project was launched by Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan and the Dutch Royal couple, Netherlands King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
  • The (LOTUS-HR) project was set up in 2017 at the Sun Dial Park here as part of a collaboration between the governments of India and the Netherlands.

Sangam Youth Festival organised by Indian Army

Over 1,500 students from 32 different colleges and university participated in the ‘Sangam Youth Festival’ being organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with Jammu University Campus in a bid to spread the message of peace, prosperity, communal harmony and national integration.

  • During this festival, several events are being organised so the students can showcase their talents and skills.

RBI imposes Rs 1 crore fine on LVB, Rs 75 lakh on Syndicate Bank for violating norms

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 crore on Lakshmi Vilas Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions of directions on Income Recognition and Asset Classification (IRAC) norms.

  • The RBI also imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 75 lakh on Syndicate Bank for non-compliance with directions issued on Frauds Classification and Reporting, and Housing Sector: Innovative Housing Loan Products — Upfront disbursal of housing loans.

ICICI Bank introduces new fixed deposit scheme ‘FD Health’

ICICI Bank has launched a new Fixed Deposit (FD) scheme – FD Health. The scheme offers FD with a health benefit through a critical illness coverage. Customers will be offered a complimentary insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh.

Zimbabwe and Nepal readmitted as ICC members

Zimbabwe and Nepal have been readmitted as ICC members following the conclusion of the ICC board meetings.

  • Zimbabwe was suspended in July 2019 by the ICC following government interference in the running of the Board.
  • Nepal was suspended in 2016 for breach of the ICC regulations which prohibit government interference and require free and fair elections.

Priyanshu Rajawat wins men’s singles title at Bahrain International Series

Indian shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat won the men’s singles title at the Bahrain International Series Badminton at Isa Town, Bahrain.

  • Indian mixed double pair of Juhi Dewangan and Venkat Gaurav Prasad also finished at the top.

Kais Saied elected as new President of Tunisia

Kais Saied is elected as the new President of Tunisia after a landslide victory in recently concluded Presidential runoff. The Independent law professor Kais Saied won against his rival, Nabil Karoui.

Shiv Nadar top philanthropist in India, Premji replaces Mukesh Ambani at second spot

According to the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2019, Shiv Nadar from HCL is the most philanthropic private individual.

  • Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man is the third most philanthropic individual in India. One place lower than last year, according to the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2019. Ambani was replaced by Azim Premji of Wipro in the second spot.

Margaret Atwood and Bernardine Evaristo jointly win Booker Prize

Margaret Atwood and Bernardine Evaristo have jointly won the 2019 Booker Prize after judges flout the rules by declaring a tie.

  • The Booker rules say the prize must not be divided, but the judges insisted they could not separate Atwood’s – ‘The Testament’ and ‘Girl, Woman, Other’ by Evaristo, who is the first black woman to win the prestigious award since its creation in 1969.

International Day of Rural Women

The International Day of Rural Women is observed on 15th October. The day recognizes the crucial role of women and girls in ensuring the sustainability of rural households and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall wellbeing.

  • This year’s theme is “Rural Women and Girls Building Climate Resilience”.

World Students’ Day

World Students’ Day is celebrated every year on October 15 on former president APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday. The day is commemorated on his birth anniversary because of Dr Kalam was a dedicated teacher and identified himself foremost in that role before anything else.

  • In 2010, the United Nations declared October 15 to be World Students’ Day.
