Israel PM Addresses India-Israel Business Summit in Mumbai

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Mumbai during the final leg of his visit to India. Mr Netanyahu addressed the India-Israel Business Summit at the iconic Taj Mahal hotel in south Mumbai.

‘Namaste Shalom’ magazine launched during Benjamin Netanyahu’s Mumbai visit

The Jewish community marked Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Mumbai visit with the launch of ‘Namaste Shalom’, a regular monthly magazine on bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

AP govt, NITI Aayog sign MoU

The Andhra Pradesh Government and the NITI Aayog have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Amaravati to develop an online dashboard for the 115 most backward districts in the country.

  • The districts were identified on the basis of objective criteria such as education, health, nutrition, basic infrastructure like rural road connectivity, rural household electrification, access to potable water and individual toilets and others.

Andhra CM launches e-Pragati platform

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched the e-Pragati CORE platform, which will be a common portal for all citizen services online.

  • As envisioned by the Chief Minister, a single source of truth and one portal to monitor everything, from insights to action, will be enabled by this platform.

India successfully test fires n-capable Agni-V ballistic missile

India has successfully test fired its indigenously developed intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-V — the most potent and with the longest range in the Agni series – that can reach targets as far as Beijing.

  • The test took place at the Abdul Kalam Island facility off the Odisha coast.
  • With this missile, India joins the super-exclusive club of ICBM (missiles with a range of over 5,000-5,500 km) capable countries of the US, Russia, the UK, France and China.


China economy rebounds in 2017 with 6.9% growth

According to official data released, China’s economy grew a forecast-beating 6.9 per cent in 2017, picking up steam for the first time since 2010 despite its battles against a massive debt and polluting factories.

  • The world’s number two economy eclipsed the official target of about 6.5 per cent and picked up pace from the 6.7 per cent growth seen in 2016, which was the slowest for more than a quarter of a century.


Yes Bank ties up with Amplus Energy Solutions

Amplus Energy Solutions has announced entering into a pact with private sector lender Yes Bank for strategic tie-up to co-finance projects in the solar energy space in India. 

  • Yes Bank will look for bankable projects to invest in and Amplus will develop them.

HDFC Bank becomes first Indian bank to cross Rs5 trillion market cap

India’s most-valued lender HDFC Bank Ltd crossed Rs5 trillion market capitalisation for the first time, making it only the third Indian company and first Indian Bank to achieve this milestone.

  • Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) and Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) are the other two companies which crossed market capitalisation of Rs5 trillion. RIL remained the most-valued company with a market cap of Rs5.82 trillion, followed by TCS with a market cap of Rs5.57 trillion.

All 14 types of Rs 10 coin valid, legal tender: RBI

All the 14 designs of Rs 10 coin are valid and legal tender for transactions, the Reserve Bank amid reluctance by certain traders to accept the coins.

  • “It has come to the notice of the Reserve Bank that in certain places there is reluctance on part of traders and members of public to accept Rs 10 coins due to suspicion about their genuineness,” RBI said while reiterating legal tender status of the coins of different designs.
  • It has also asked banks to accept coins for transactions and exchange at all their branches.


Government to set up $350 mn solar development fund

India will set up a $350-million fund to finance solar projects, Power Minister RK Singh said, as the country steps up efforts to achieve its ambitious target of adding 175 gigawatts (GW) in renewable energy by 2022.

  • He announced this at a two-day International Solar Alliance (ISA) Forum in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He expressed hope that ISA shall help mobilise sufficient funds for solar energy projects.

India’s GDP to grow by 7.1% in FY19: Ind-Ra

India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) has predicted that India’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow at 7.1 per cent in FY19.


Kohli named ICC, ODI Cricketer of the Year

India skipper and run-machine Virat Kohli has won the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2017 as the International Cricket Council announced the men’s individual award winners of 2017.

  • Kohli also bagged the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award, while Australia skipper Steve Smith was declared as the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year.


S Selvakumar Appointed CMD Of SPMCIL

The government appointed senior IAS officer S Selvakumar as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL).

  • The state-owned SPMCIL produces banknotes, coins, postage stamps, non-judicial stamps and other official documents.

Romania names MEP Viorica Dancila as first female PM

European lawmaker Viorica Dancila has been named as Prime Minister-designate in Romania making her the country’s third head of government in a year and its first female premier.

  • It was announced after the sudden resignation of former Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.


Hall of Famer Jo Jo White Passes Away

Basketball Hall of Famer Jo Jo White (American basketball player), a two-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics and an Olympic gold medalist, has passed away.
