Union Minister Smriti Irani along with Bill Gates launch Bharatiya Poshan Krishi Kosh

Union Minister of Women and Child Development (WCD) and Textiles, Smriti Irani, along with Bill Gates, co-chair of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, launched the Bharatiya Poshan Krishi Kosh (BPKK).

  • The BPKK will be a repository of diverse crops across 128 agro-climatic zones in India for better nutritional outcomes.

Health Ministry signs MoC with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The Health Ministry signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) under which the latter would provide technical, management and program design support through its grantees and other partners.

  • The MoC was signed following a meeting between Philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
  • Under the MoC, the foundation would support the Ministry’s work towards strengthening the primary health aspects such as reducing maternal and child mortality, improving nutrition services and increasing the immunisation reach.

Andhra CM launches toll-free number to curb sand smuggling

In a bid to curb sand smuggling, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a toll-free number 14500 to register complaints or irregularities around sand hoarding, pricing and smuggling. 

  • Complaints can be made to the toll-free number for irregularities, which would attract penal action.

Yogi Adityanath inaugurates North India’s 1st sugar mill which will produce ethanol

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated North India’s first sugar mill which will produce ethanol direct from sugarcane.

  • The mill was inaugurated in Pipraich area of Gorakhpur, which is a unit of Uttar Pradesh Sugar and Sugarcane Development Corporation Limited.
  • The mills, which previously produced around 8,000 quintals of sugar, will now produce more than 50,000 quintals of sugar every day.

Mumbai tops ranking for tap water quality; Delhi finishes at bottom

As per the study was under directions of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food & PD to check the quality of piped drinking water being supplied in the country in keeping with the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, Mumbai topped the ranking released by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for quality of tap water.

  • Delhi is at the bottom, with 11 out of 11 samples failing on 19 parameter.

The 8th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics held in New Delhi

The 8th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS-VIII) was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in New Delhi. The conference was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, ISI-CAS, FAO, the USDA, ADB, World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Eurostat, AfDB and various other organizations. Bill Gates was the chief guest.

  • The theme of this year’s ICAS is ‘Statistics for Transformation of Agriculture to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM Plus) and the opening ceremony of Defence and Security 2019 Exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand.

Pakistan launches surface-to-surface ballistic missile Shaheen-1

Pakistan has conducted a successful training launch of surface-to-surface ballistic missile Shaheen-1. The launch was aimed at testing the operational readiness of Army Strategic Forces Command (ASFC) ensuring Pakistan’s credible minimum deterrence.

ICICI Lombard, Fino Payments Bank aim deeper insurance penetration

ICICI Lombard and Fino Payments Bank announced plans to take insurance deeper into the hinterlands of the country by leveraging technology-enabled platforms to harness customer reach.

  • Continuing with their health insurance focus, both companies are launching a dengue and malaria policy that covers treatments pertaining to these diseases up to Rs 10,000 at a premium as low as Rs 49.

Brazil secured a 2-1 win over Mexico in the final to lift the FIFA Under-17 World Cup trophy held in Brazil. With this victory, Brazil have taken their World Cup titles tally to four.

Cricket Australia bans Emily Smith for one year

Cricket Australia (CA) on handed a one-year ban to Hobart Hurricanes player Emily Smith for breaching their Anti-Corruption Code.

  • Smith will be ineligible to participate in any form of cricket for a period of one year, with nine months being fully suspended.

Rajat Sharma takes up charge as DDCA president after ombudsman’s order

Rajat Sharma assumed the charge of the office of president of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) again after ombudsman Justice (Retired) Badar Durrez Ahmed put his and other officials’ resignations on hold and asked them to continue in their respective roles.

Sharad Arvind Bobde sworn-in as 47th Chief Justice of India

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has been sworn-in as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI) by President Ram Nath Kovind. New CJI, Bobde, has succeeded Justice Ranjan Gogoi who retired on November 17 after remaining in office for over 13 months.

  • Justice Bobde will retire as CJI on April 23, 2021.

Delhi Metro wins 2 awards at Urban Mobility India Conference

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been conferred with two awards for its commendable initiatives in promoting the metro as a green and sustainable mode of transport among the masses.

  • DMRC was awarded for the ‘Last Mile Connectivity’ project in the category of best non-motorised transport and the ‘Green Metro project – An Initiative for Sustainable and Viable Urban Transport’ in the category of best green initiative in urban transport, at the 12th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019 held from November 15 to 17 in Lucknow.

Sudarsan Pattnaik wins Italian Golden Sand Art Award in Rome

Renowned Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik received the Italian Golden Sand Art Award 2019. Pattnaik represented India at the International Scorrano Sand Nativity event held in Lecce, Italy, earlier this week. He created a 10-foot high sand sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi.

Veteran actors Sridevi and Rekha conferred with ANR National Award

The veteran actors Sridevi and Rekha were conferred with the Akkineni Nageswara Rao National Award for 2018 and 2019 respectively.
