Govt approves setting up of 42 Mega Food Parks

The government has approved setting up of a total 42 Mega Food Parks in the country to create modern infrastructure for food processing.

  • Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that nine Mega Food Parks have become functional so far and Ministry has targeted to make six more Mega Food Parks functional in this financial year and 12 by the next financial year.

India to host meeting of 30-40 WTO members in February

India will host a meeting of WTO member countries in February 2018 to muster support for food security and other issues. 

  • The proposed meeting would be in the backdrop of developed nations forming groupings to prepare ground for pushing investment facilitation, preparing rules for e-commerce, promoting gender equality and reducing subsidy on fisheries.

Eastern India’s first CNG stations inaugurated in Bhubaneswar

Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated eastern India’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) stations at Chandrasekharpur and Patia in Bhubaneswar, Odisha to supply CNG to vehicles. He also launched CNG-run scooters and auto-rickshaws.

AP Govt, UNESCO to set up gaming hub, special school

The Andhra Pradesh Government in association with the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is planning to establish a centre of excellence for children with learning differences as well as a “gaming for e-learning hub”. It will be the first of the its kind in India and in Asia-Pacific region.

Losar Festival being celebrated in Ladakh

Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir is celebrating Losar Festival from today (19th December 2017). The festival is celebrated to mark the new year and the celebrations continue for three days to nine days in different parts of Ladakh.

AU Small Finance Bank joins hands with Sahaj e-Village

AU Small Finance Bank has announced signing an MoU with Sahaj e-Village for extending its banking service in remote areas through Business Correspondent Agent (BC) model.

  • Sahaj e-Village Limited is a venture initiative of SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited (SIFL) that has been bridging the digital divide between urban and rural India under the flagship of NeGP of the Government of India.

YES Bank, EIB to co-finance $400 mn for clean power projects

YES Bank and the European Investment Bank will co-finance $400-million funding for renewable power generation in the country. Of the $400-million, the EIB will fund $200 million, while the rest will be supported by YES Bank, the project promoters and other financial institutions.

Ola acquires foodpanda India from Delivery Hero

Ride-sharing platform Ola announced that it has acquired Foodpanda’s India business from Germany’s Delivery Hero in exchange for Ola stock. Under the agreement, Ola will also commit to investing $200 million in foodpanda India.

Bharti Airtel to acquire Millicom’s operations in Rwanda

Telecom giant Bharti Airtel entered into a definitive agreement with Millicom International Cellular S.A. under which Airtel Rwanda Limited will acquire 100 percent equity interest in Tigo Rwanda Limited.

  • The acquisition will consolidate the Rwandan telecom market and position Airtel as a strong operator in Rwanda.

Badminton Jr. Nationals: Aakarshi Kashyap wins U-17 & U-19 singles titles

India’s top-ranked junior shuttler Aakarshi Kashyap won U-17 and U-19 singles titles at junior Nationals held in Guwahati, Assam.

BBC Sports Personality 2017: England women cricketers win team award

England women’s cricketers won the Team of the Year award at the BBC Sports Personality show after their 2017 World Cup triumph. They beat India by nine runs after a stunning fightback in the final at Lord’s in July.

Apple appoints Michel Coulomb as India head

Apple has named Michel Coulomb as the head of sales for its operations in India, a key market for the iconic iPhone maker. He succeeds Sanjay Kaul, who has stepped down from the post.

NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar retires

National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar today retired from the post after completing his five-year tenure. His successor is yet to be appointed.

  • Justice Kumar resigned as Supreme Court judge after he was appointed NGT chairperson on December 20, 2012.

Satheesh Reddy conferred with national design award

G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri and Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems, has been conferred with the prestigious National Design Award.

  • He has bagged this award for his significant national contribution towards indigenous design and development of diversified missile systems, guided weapons, avionics technologies and for his sustained efforts leading to the advancement of aerospace technologies and industries in India.

Bengali poet Joy Goswami to get 31st Moortidevi Award

Eminent Bengali poet Joy Goswami will be given the 31st Moortidevi Award for the year 2017. It is the first time the award will be given to a Bengali poet.

  • The committee unanimously decided to confer the award upon Goswami for his poetry collection titled Du Dondo Phowara Matro.
