PM Modi declares India ODF, releases commemorative coins to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi

On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd October declared India to be an ‘open defecation free’ (ODF) country.

  • PM also released commemorative stamps and Rs 150 coins on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
  • He also vowed to eradicate ‘single-use plastic’ by the year 2022.

President Kovind inaugurates 70th TB seal campaign

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 70th TB (tuberculosis) seal campaign of the Tuberculosis Association of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Smriti Irani Inaugurates world’s largest plastic-made charkha in Noida

Union Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated a 1,650-kg ‘charkha’ (spinning wheel) made of plastic waste in Noida on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.

  • The Charkha was made with 1,650 kgs of plastic waste. It measures 14 feet tall, width 8 feet, and 20 feet in length. It has been fixed near the Mahamaya flyover in Sector 94.

Ramvilas Paswan launches app for registering consumer grievances

In order to fast-track consumer grievance redressal process and provide an effective forum for consumers to give their valuable suggestions to the Department on consumer related issues, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Ram Vilas Paswan launched the ‘Consumer App’.

  • The app aims to provide a one stop solution for consumer grievance redressal at the palm of every consumer across the nation via mobile phones.

CBDT launches documentation identification number

The Documentation Identification Number (DIN) system of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has come into existence with the generation of about 17,500 communications with DIN on the very first day, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

  • Now every CBDT communication will have to have a documentation identification number.

Andhra CM inaugurates Secretariat system to strengthen village ecosystem

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the ‘Village Secretariat system’ in the state and asserted that the state government aims to strengthen the village ecosystem.

  • The Secretariats will provide 500 kind of services and will work as a liaison between the government and people.

Chhattisgarh government starts five new schemes on Gandhi Jayanti

Chhattisgarh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has launched five new schemes on October 2 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

  • The schemes are Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyaan (Chief Minister Nutrition Scheme), Mukhyamantri Haat Bazaar Clinic Yojana (Chief Minister Market Clinic Scheme), Mukhyamantri Shahariya slum Swasthya Yojana (Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme), Universal PDS scheme and Mukhyamantri ward Karyalaya (Chief Minister Ward Offices).

Himachal launches policy to buy-back non recyclable, single-use plastic waste

Himachal Pradesh government launched a policy to promote buy-back of the non-recyclable and single-use plastic waste from the rag pickers and households, providing minimum support price of Rs 75 per kilogram, for its collection and deposit in the collection centres of the Urban Local Bodies

Gadkari launches bamboo water bottle

Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Nitin Gadkari launched bamboo bottles of 700 ml to 900 ml capacity made by a Tripura-based organisation.

  • The minister, who was at a special sales campaign of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) products on the eve of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, also launched Ladlee, Oxo Biodegradable sanitary pads manufactured by Deepanjan Charitable Trust.
  • A release of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said that the bamboo bottles are seen as a perfect replacement for plastic bottles as it is natural, cost-effective, attractive and eco-friendly.

DRDO completes a year of complete ban on single-use plastic bottles in its Headquarters

On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, DRDO Headquarters has completed full one year of a total ban on all types of water bottles packaged or otherwise.

  • The initiative was started by DRDO Chief G Satheesh Reddy on the next day after taking over as the head of the research agency on August 29 last year.

INDO-KAZAKHSTAN Joint Military Exercise KAZIND – 2019 begins

Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2019 between India and Kazakhstan began at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The exercise will comprise of nearly 100 soldiers from both Indian and Kazakhstan Army who would be sharing their experience gained during conduct of various counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations in the past.

BCCI provides helpline numbers to tackle age fraud in game

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have provided helpline numbers to all cricketers, team support staff and administrators of State Cricket Associations to avoid any age fraud in the game.

  • The board further said that Anti-Doping and Anti-Corruption teams have been working closely to spread awareness among cricketers, team support staff and members of all associations to approach the respective cells in case of any drug queries, corrupt approaches and incidences of age and domicile fraud.

India’s N. Wilson Singh and Satish Kumar Prahapati produced impressive performances to win the gold medal in the 10m platform synchronised diving event at the ongoing 10th Asian Age Group Championships

The government appointed Economist Dr Surjit S Bhalla as Executive Director for India at International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a period of three years.

Lt-General IS Ghuman assumes charge as Commander of Central Command of Indian Army

Lieutenant Iqroop Singh Ghuman has assumed charge as the Commander of the Central Command of Indian Army. He has succeeded Lieutenant-General Abhay Krishna who retired on September 30.
