Delhi Govt School Students to Get Free Coaching for NEET, JEE Entrance Exams
The Delhi government will be providing free preparatory coaching for entrance examinations such as NEET and JEE to the students who are willing to opt for engineering, medical and other technical fields.

  • Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that as many as 6,000 children of classes 11 and 12 selected from Delhi government schools will be provided free coaching for the preparation of various entrance exams during the first year of the programme.
  • The Directorate of Education (DoE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ‘Avanti Fellows’ to prepare students for the entrance exams.

Nepal to Become First Country to Deploy India’s UPI Platform
Nepal will be the first country to adopt India’s UPI system, which will play a pivotal role in transforming the digital economy of the neighbouring country, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said. NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), the international arm of NPCI, has joined hands with Gateway Payments Service (GPS) and Manam Infotech to provide the services in Nepal.

  • GPS is the authorised payment system operator in Nepal and Manam Infotech will deploy Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in that country. The collaboration will serve the larger digital public good in Nepal and bolster interoperable real-time person-to-person (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions in the neighbouring country, NPCI said in a statement.

India’s GDP likely to grow at 5.8% in Oct-Dec: SBI report
The country’s gross domestic product (GDP) is likely to grow at 5.8% in the third quarter of fiscal 2022, according to an SBI’s research report- Ecowrap. The country’s economy expanded by 8.4% in the second quarter of 2021-22, to cross pre-pandemic levels.

  • As per SBI Nowcasting Model, the forecasted GDP growth for Q3 FY22 would be 5.8%, with a downward bias. The full year (FY22) GDP growth is now revised downwards to 8.8% from our earlier estimate of 9.3%.

India wins bid to host 2023 International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai
India won the right to host the 2023 IOC session in Mumbai during the 139th IOC session that was held in Beijing, China, on the sidelines of the Winter Olympics. This will be the second time India hosts an IOC session, having done so in 1983 in New Delhi. India won the bid unopposed.

Heather Knight And Keegan Petersen Win ICC Player of The Month Award For January
South African batter Keegan Petersen pipped under-19 star and compatriot Dewald Brevis and Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain to claim the ICC men’s Player of the Month award for January following a phenomenal Test series against India. For the women’s award, England skipper Heather Knight beat off competition from Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and West Indies star Deandra Dottin to clinch the honour.

Ratan Tata Conferred Assam’s Highest Civilian Award
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conferred the state’s highest civilian award ‘Assam Baibhav’ to eminent industrialist Ratan Tata at a function held in Mumbai. The award has been conferred on Tata, who is also the chairman of Tata Trust, for his exceptional contribution towards furthering cancer care in Assam. It carries a citation, a medal and a cash amount of Rs five lakh. The award was to be given to Tata at a ceremony here on January 24 but he could not attend it due to personal reasons.

Coal India gets ‘India’s Most Trusted Public Sector Company’ award
Coal India Limited, a Maharatna company of the Government of India, has been awarded the ‘India’s Most Trusted Public Sector Company’ award. Coal India received this honor at the “Energy Meet and Excellence Award” function organized by Industry Chamber “ASSOCHAM” in Kolkata.

Senior Shiv Sena Leader Sudhir Joshi Passes Away at 81
Senior Shiv Sena leader and former minister Sudhir Joshi died of a brief illness. Joshi was 81 and is survived by his son.

Former India Midfielder and East Bengal Legend Surajit Sengupta Passes Away
Former India midfielder and East Bengal legend Surajit Sengupta, who was part of the national team that won a bronze medal in the 1970 Asian Games, has passed away following his prolonged battle with COVID-19. He was 71.

Senior journalist, retired IIS officer Pratap Bordoloi passes away at 72
Senior journalist and retired IIS officer Pratap Bordoloi has passed away. He was 72. Mr. Bordoli who retired in 2009, worked in various capacities in AIR News and Doordarshan News.
