AAP guarantees clean air, 24-hour power and water supply in Delhi
Ahead of assembly elections in the national capital, Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal released a 10-point guarantee card, which includes reducing pollution by a third, ensuring continuous piped drinking water supply and building houses for slum dwellers.

  • The 10 points also include extending free travel on public transport to students in addition to women currently, basic facilities for unauthorized colonies, good education for students until graduation, affordable and quality healthcare, improved security for women, uninterrupted power supply, and improved cleanliness by ensuring efficient disposal of garbage.

Andhra Pradesh Cabinet clears the Proposal for three capitals: Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, Kurnool
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to have three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, amid protests by thousands of farmers of the Amaravati region and by Telugu Desam Party.

  • The government has proposed to retain Amaravati as the legislative capital, while making Visakhapatnam the home for executive and Kurnool the judicial capital.

International Conclave on ‘Globalising Indian Thought’ held in IIM-Kozhikode 
The three days International Conclave on ‘Globalising Indian Thought’ held in the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) . The conclave deliberated on issues that impact global management thoughts in the years to come.

  • The conclave will witness representations from renowned academicians, public figures and the presentation of more than 100 world-class research papers.

UN’s decarbonisation target for shipping to cost over $1 trillion – study
U.N. shipping agency, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), aims to reduce the industry’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from 2008 levels by 2050, a target that will require the swift development of zero or low emission fuels and new ship designs using cleaner technology.

  • In the first study into costs, researchers estimated that the cumulative investment needed between 2030 and 2050 would be between $1 trillion to $1.4 trillion, or an average of $50 billion to $70 billion annually for 20 years.

India ranks 76th in WEF’s 1st Global Social Mobility Index 2020
The 1st edition of Global Social Mobility Report 2020 titled “The Global Social Mobility Report 2020: Equality, Opportunity and a New Economic Imperative” released by World Economic Forum.
India has been ranked very low at 76th place out of 82 countries on a new Social Mobility Index .

  • The top 3 countries are Denmark, Norway followed by Finland.

Ratchanok Intanon bags Indonesia Masters title 2020
Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand defeated Carolina Marin of Spain to win the Indonesia Badminton Masters 2020 women’s singles title held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Hometown hero Anthony Sinisuka Ginting snatched the men’s Indonesia Masters title in a dramatic comeback over defending champion Anders Antonsen.

General Satinder Kumar Saini appointed as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff
Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General SK Saini appointed as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff from January 25. The post of Vice Chief of Army Staff fell vacant after Lt Gen MM Naravane, then vice chief, was elevated as the Chief of Army Staff

‘Castle of Dreams’ recieves the Best Film Award at DIFF
The Iranian film ‘Castle of Dreams’ directed by Reza Mirakarimi won the Best Film Award in Asian Competition section of the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) which concluded recently. The film also won the Best Director Award.
Other winner list :
1.In the Asian Competition segment, Sri Lankan director Prasanna Vithanage’s film ‘Children of the Sun’  won Special Jury Award.
2.Best Actress Award went to Arezoo Ariapoor, Ferestha Afshar and Hasiba Ebrahimi for their acting in Afghanistan-3.Iran-France joint venture film ‘Hava, Maryamk, Ayesha’ while the Best Actor Award went to Lousie Abuel for his acting in the film ‘Edward’.
4.In Bangladesh Panorama Section, ‘No Dorai’ directed by Taneem Rahman Angshu bagged the Best Film Award.
5.Indian film ‘Finally Love’ directed by Anjan Dutt bagged Best Audience Award in Cinema of the World Category.

 ‘cVIGIL’ and ‘Voter Helpline app’ won e-Governance Award of Excellence 2019 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha
Award of Excellence for the year 2019 was given by Computer Society of India (CSI) and Special Interest Group on e-Governance (CSI SIG e-Gov) at  Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Bhubaneswar, Odisha during the CSI 2020, 53rd annual convention of CSI.

  • The two innovative Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications developed by Election Commission of India (ECI), ‘cVIGIL’ and ‘Voter Helpline App’ has won the ‘Award of Excellence’ 2019.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw becomes 4th Indian to receive highest Australian civilian honour
Australia has conferred its highest civilian honour, the Order of Australia honour, on Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw for her contribution towards advancing the country’s relationship with India. Mazumdar-Shaw is the fourth Indian citizen to be awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour.

Indian Air Force resurrects 222 Squadron, the Tigersharks
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the induction ceremony of Su-30 fighter squadron at the Air Force Station in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu.It would be the second frontline fighter squadron of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to be based in South.

  • The ‘Tigersharks’, equipped with formidable, state-of- the-art air superiority fighter aircraft, which are armed with 2.5 ton air-launched BrahMos missile of 300 km range, have the capability to strike from large stand-off ranges on any target at sea or on land with pin-point accuracy by day or night and in all weather conditions.
