NATIONAL NEWS

Over 30 crore loans amounting to Rs 15.97 cr sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana
In July 2021, Government has said that over 30 crore loans amounting to 15 lakh 97 thousand crore rupees have been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana since inception of the Scheme in April, 2015. Under the scheme, institutional credit up to 10 lakh rupees is provided for entrepreneurial activities to micro and small business units.

  • Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana has helped in generation of more than one crore net additional employment during 2015 to 2018.

IIT-Ropar Develops First-of-its-kind Oxygen Rationing Device
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar have developed a first-of-its-kind device that can regulate the flow of medical oxygen from cylinder during inhalation and exhalation by a patient, thereby reducing wastage.

  • AMLEX is a system developed specifically for oxygen cylinders. It synchronises the flow of oxygen with inhalation and exhalation of a patient. This conserves a large amount of oxygen in the reservoir, said Dr Ashish Sahani, Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, IIT Ropar.

Assam Govt to provide jobs for all National Games Medalists
Assam CM has promised to provide Government jobs to all forthcoming medal earners of the State in the National Games, along with winners of the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

  • Additionally, for past medal winners of such games and other Olympic affiliated games at the national level, a monthly pension scheme will be ensured by the State Government at the earliest.

Perumkulam is Kerala’s first ‘Book Village’
Perumkulam, in Kollam District has been bestowed with the title Kerala’s first ‘Book Village’. This claim to fame results from years of concerted efforts aimed at encouraging the habit of reading.

  • Perumkulam is a small village in Kulakkada near Kottarakkara in Kollam district.Bapuji Smaraka Grandhasala’, a library in the village is at the forefront in this efforts of making it the first book village of the State.
  • The library inculcates passion towards reading by setting up bookshelves, or ‘Book Nests’ placed at different corners of the village. Anybody can take books from the book nests, read them, and keep them back.

Rajasthan develops mobile app for purchase, sale of organic products
Now purchase and sale of organic products in Rajasthan can be done online using ‘Raj Kisan Organic’ mobile application, developed by the agriculture department for coordination and negotiation between farmers and the buyers.

  • The mobile app allows farmers of organic food in Rajasthan to directly bargain and negotiate a price with a pool of buyers on the application.

Andhra Pradesh govt to launch flagship startup promotion scheme

The Andhra Pradesh government will launch a flagship startup promotion scheme Accelerate Startups in AP (ASAP) for early stage startups to offer plug-and-play office space and access to a network of investors and mentors.

  • It will also set up a Rs 100 crore ‘fund of funds’, in partnership with a consortium of Venture Capitals and Private Equity firms and universities, for funding startups in the state.

IOC to build India’s first green hydrogen plant at Mathura refinery
India’s largest oil firm IOC will build the nation’s first ‘green hydrogen’ plant at its Mathura refinery, as it aims to prepare for a future catering to the growing demand for both oil and cleaner forms of energy.

  • Hydrogen is the latest buzz for meeting the world’s energy needs. Hydrogen, in itself, is a clean fuel but manufacturing it is energy-intensive and has carbon byproducts.

Yami Gautam joins hands with Himachal Pradesh government for ‘Baccho Ka Sahara, Phone Humara’ initiative
Bollywood actor Yami Gautam Dhar joined hands with the Himachal Pradesh government for their initiative, ‘Baccho Ka Sahara, Phone Humara’. With online learning becoming the new normal, many kids are robbed of educational opportunities as there is a lack of basic technology facilities in various parts of the country. The initiative ‘Baccho Ka Sahara, Phone Humara’ is a phone donation camp that has been launched by the Himachal Pradesh government to help needy children who cannot afford smartphones.

Kala Vishwa – a virtual platform for traditional and folk artists launched by ICCR
Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has launched a new campaign called ‘KALA VISHWA’, from its Mumbai Centre. Kala Vishwas is a special campaign under the Horizon Series that will be held for a duration of six months to reach out to traditional folk artists, local artistes / artisans and those coming from rural areas and give them an opportunity and a platform to perform under this campaign, especially during the challenging time of COVID-19.

Russia’s S-500 missile system successfully tested
Russia’s S-500 next-generation missile system has struck a fast-moving ballistic target in a training exercise at the Kapustin Yar range. The first S-500 system will be procured to the Moscow Region’s air and missile defense unit after a full cycle of tests is completed, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.

Russia successfully test-fired the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile. Russia is set to arm warships and submarines with the Zircon missile.

  • Zircon is a winged, anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile which was first mentioned by President Vladimir Putin during his address to the nation in 2018.

Qatar Airways joins IATA’s Turbulence Aware platform, first airline in Middle East to join the initiative
Qatar Airways and the International Air Transport Association announced that Qatar Airways will become the first airline in the Middle East to join the IATA Turbulence Aware platform.

  • IATA’s Turbulence Aware helps airlines mitigate the impact of turbulence, a leading cause of passenger and crew injuries and higher fuel costs each year, by pooling and sharing anonymised turbulence data from multiple participating airlines and thousands of daily flights.

Goldman Sachs sets up centre in Hyderabad
Banking and financial services major Goldman Sachs has opened a new facility in Hyderabad as part of its commitment to expand its global centre for engineering and business innovation in India.

  • The new office is expected to have about 800 people by year-end and grow to over 2,500 people by 2023. The new office will host functions across engineering, finance, human capital management, and support for consumer banking, and specialise in digital banking, artificial intelligence and machine learning areas.

YouTube to acquire ‘Made in India’ Video e-Commerce platform Simsim
YouTube will acquire Indian video e-commerce platform Simsim, as part of its efforts to help small businesses and retailers in India reach new customers. The company, however, did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.

  • There will be no immediate changes to Simsim and the app will continue operating independently, it added. YouTube is working on ways to showcase Simsim offers to YouTube viewers.
