RBI signs MoU with Central Bank of Nigeria

The Reserve Bank of India has announced its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Supervisory Cooperation and Exchange of Supervisory Information” with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

  • The apex bank signed an MoU with Central Bank of Nigeria under the presence of Godwin Emefiele, Governor on behalf of Central Bank of Nigeria and Dr Urjit R Patel, Governor Reserve Bank of India.

SBI-Mahila Bank merger on April 1: RBI

Few days back, Centre said it had decided to merge the bank with the SBI to ensure greater banking services outreach to more women.

  • Now RBI has announced that the BMB will be merged with the State Bank of India on April 1, along with five associate banks.
  • Customers, including depositors of BMB, will be treated as customers of SBI.

India and ADB Sign $350 Million Loan for Upgrading 1,500 kms of District Roads in State of Madhya Pradesh

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed here today a $350 million loan for improving about 1,500 kilometers of major district roads in Madhya Pradesh in line with the State’s Road Development Plan.

  • Along with ADB’s loan, the Government of Madhya Pradesh will provide counterpart support of $150 million. The project will run for almost four years with an expected completion date of March 2021.

CoinTribe, SMERA Ratings join hands to simplify MSME loan facilitation

India’s leading online lending marketplace CoinTribe has announced a strategic alliance with SMERA Ratings Limited.

  • The partnership is aimed to counter the traditional inefficiencies in the credit assessment of MSMEs and to provide state-of-the-art technology driven services of CoinTribe to SMERA-rated SMEs.

Centre announces ‘Har Ghar Jal’ to accomplish mission of safe drinking water

The Central government has launched National Water Quality Sub Mission on Arsenic and Fluoride to provide safe drinking water to about 28,000 affected habitations in the country by March 2021, with an outlay of Rs 25,000 crore.

Also Government is committed to providing tap water on a sustained basis in every household by 2030 as per the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for which Rs 23,000 crore of central fund will be required annually till the target is achieved.


Govt sets target to triple nuclear power generation by 2024

Nuclear power generation capacity in the country is expected to reach nearly 15,000 MW by 2024 as the government has expedited the process of setting up new plants.

  • In 2014, India’s nuclear power generation capacity was 4,780 MW.

Centre sanctions 1.17 lakh more houses for urban poor with an investment of Rs.5,773 cr

Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has approved construction of 1,17,814 more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor in six States under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana (Urban) with a total investment of Rs.5,773 cr and with central assistance of Rs.1,816 cr.


India ranks 131 on Human Development Index

India came down by one slot and was ranked 131st among 188 countries on Human Development Index (HDI) 2016 released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

  • The top three countries in HDI were Norway, Australia  and Switzerland.

The Bihar government has launched an ambitious programme to provide free WiFi facilities in colleges and universities for students on the occasion of Bihar Divas celebrations


Majuli to become India’s first carbon neutral district by 2020

Assam government has initiated a project to make World’s Largest river island Majuli the country’s first ever Carbon Neutral district by 2020.

  • The project titled ‘Sustainable Action for Climate Resilient Development in Majuli’ (SACReD, Majuli) has been initiated by Assam’s department of Environment and Forest

Samsung becomes first company to launch mobile payment service in India

Samsung Pay, a new mobile payments platform has been officially rolled out in India.

  • Apart from allowing users to simply tap and pay on the go using their registered cards, the service, Samsung Pay, has integrated Paytm as well as the government’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) into the application.

Taiwan launches submarine project in face of China threat

Taiwan’s president Tsai Ing-wen launched the island’s first ever home-grown submarine project in the face of what the government says are growing military threats from China.

  • The move comes after China sent its only aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, through the Taiwan Strait in January, in one of a number of military drills held as relations deteriorate.
