Amit Shah to head panel on Air India disinvestment

The government reconstituted a group of ministers tasked with working out the modalities for sale of Air India.

  • The GoM, called the Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism, will now be headed by home minister Amit Shah and comprise three other ministers. The other ministers in the panel will be finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, commerce and railway minister Piyush Goyal and civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
  • The panel will also take a call on whether the government should completely exit loss making Air India during the sell-off process.

Bengaluru tops list of most digitised cities, reports highest card payments

Bengaluru has topped the list of “most digitised cities” accounting for highest card payments in a study conducted by payments solution company Razorpay.

  • According to the Era of Rising Fintech Report, released by Razorpay Software Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru is followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune and Delhi.
  • The top five digitised states as per the report are Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi.

Vande Bharat successfully completes trial run from New Delhi to Katra route

India’s fastest train, Vande Bharat Express‘s trial run from New Delhi to Katra was successfully conducted by the Indian Railways’ Northern Railway zone.

  • This train is better than Shatabdi Express; it runs at a speed of 160 km per hour.

Date for filing ITR extended to August 31, 2019

The date for filing income tax returns (ITR) for the assessment year 2019-20 has been extended from 31st July, 2019 to August 31, 2019

  • The man referred to as King Bibi by both those who adore and detest him, has spent 4,867 days – more than 13 years – in office.

Aditya Birla Payments Bank shuts operations 18 months after launch

Aditya Birla Payments Bank, a venture between Idea Cellular and Aditya Birla Nuvo, has shut down its operations. The payments bank that was only 18-month old has asked its customers to transfer their balances before July 26.

IMF cuts India’s GDP growth forecast to 7 per cent for FY20

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cut its projection for India’s economic growth by 0.3 percentage points to 7 per cent for the fiscal year 2019-20 owing to the “weaker-than-expected outlook” for the domestic demand.

  • The growth is expected to rise to 7.2 per cent points in FY21, down by the projected growth rate of 7.5 in the earlier report.

RBI Governor launches ‘Utkarsh 2022’ to evolve better economic environment

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das launched — Utkarsh 2022 – the central bank’s medium-term strategy framework in line with the evolving macroeconomic environment to achieve excellence in the performance of its mandates and strengthening the trust of citizens and other institutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of Amita Prasad, a 1985 batch Karnataka cadre officer, has been entrusted with the charges of Inland Waterways Authority of India, which is an arm of Ministry of Shipping.

  • Similarly, another 1985 batch IES official, Arun Kumar Jha, has been appointed as the Director General of National Productivity Council (NPC).

Sanjeev Kumar Singla appointed PS to PM Modi

IFS officer Sanjeev Kumar Singla has been appointed the Private Secretary (PS) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Level-14.

Boris Johnson will be next Prime Minister of UK

Hardline Brexiteer Boris Johnson will be the next prime minister of Britain after defeating Jeremy Hunt in the Conservative party’s leadership contest.

  • Boris, who is the former Mayor of London and British Foreign Secretary, will succeed Theresa May as the British PM.

Kosovo PM resigns following summons from Hague War Court

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj abruptly resigned after being summoned as a suspect before a war crimes tribunal in The Hague, a development that could lead to snap elections and affect prospects for reconciliation talks with neighboring Serbia.
