Himanta Biswa Sarma launches Mission Lifestyle for Environment(LiFE) in Assam
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Mission Lifestyle for Environment’ (LiFE) in the state, a global mass movement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Sarma said it promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle, focusing on utilisation instead of wasteful consumption.
- Under this initiative, week-long activities will be carried out across all districts, addressing seven identified categories, including saving energy and water, reducing plastic and e-waste, and healthy lifestyles.
Govt approves installation of ‘Statue of Knowledge’ dedicated to Ambedkar
The Maharashtra government has given approval for a 75-feet tall ‘Statue of Knowledge’ dedicated to Dr B. R. Ambedkar in Latur city, local MP Sudhakar Shrangare said.
- He had submitted a proposal in this regard, he said. The state government issued an order regarding the statue and also the beautification of the Ambedkar Park in the city, the BJP MP said, adding that Rs 10 crore have been sanctioned for the entire project. Shrangare had last year installed a 75-feet replica of Ambedkar’s statue and there was a demand from some organizations that a permanent statue should be installed in the city.
- The ground-breaking ceremony for the project will be performed on April 14, Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, the MP said.

RBI to set up new Data Centre & Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das laid the foundation stone for establishment of a “Greenfield Data Centre’ and ‘Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute’ in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- The Governor highlighted the need for augmenting the existing computing infrastructure of the RBI supported by cutting edge facilities for research and capacity building in emerging areas straddling central banking, technology and cybersecurity for a future ready RBI.
- The new Data Centre and the Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute spread over an area of 18.55 acres, when commissioned, will cater to the emerging requirements of the RBI and the financial sector.

WTCA join hands with Merlin Group to develop World Trade Centre in Kolkata
The World Trade Centers Association and real estate developer, Merlin Group, have entered into an agreement for developing a World Trade Center in Kolkata spread across 3.5 million square feet.
- The License Agreement for the project was duly executed between Scott Wang, vice president, World Trade Centers Association (WTCA), Asia Pacific region, and Sushil Mohta, chairman along with Saket Mohta, managing director of Merlin Group, Kolkata.
- The investment in the under-construction project located in Salt Lake, West Bengal is pegged at around Rs 1,500 crore.

Sergio Pérez wins Saudi Arabia Grand Prix 2023
At the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix of the 2023 Formula One season, Sergio Perez displayed a dominant performance and earned his first win.
- His teammate at Red Bull, Max Verstappen, secured the second position after starting from the 15th spot.
- Although Verstappen retained his lead in the championship standings with his fastest lap, Fernando Alonso was the focus of the battle for the final podium spot, finishing in third place.
IPL became India’s first unicorn in 2008 at $1.1 billion valuation: Report
D&P Advisory has analyzed the Indian Premier League (IPL) and reported that the cricket tournament was India’s first unicorn, with a valuation of $1.1 billion in 2008, the year it was launched.
- The advisory had previously announced that IPL had become a decacorn (valued at $10.9 billion) recently. D&P Advisory is now preparing to publish a new analysis called “IPL: The Pioneer of Indian Unicorns.”
Pankaj Advani retains Asian Billiards title in QBSF
Pankaj Advani, the Indian cue sports champion, has retained his Asian Billiards title in the 100-up format after defeating his compatriot Brijesh Damani 5-1 in the final held at Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF) Academy.
- Advani, who has won the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) world championship 25 times, won the match with a scoreline of 100(51)-18, 100(88)-9, 86(54)-101(75), 100-26, 100(66)-2, 101(64)-59.

Stadium named after hockey star Rani Rampal, first woman to get this honour
Indian team’s star hockey player Rani Rampal has become the first woman in the sport to have a stadium named after her, in Rae Bareli.
- The MCF Rae Bareli has renamed the hockey stadium as ‘Rani’s Girls Hockey Turf’.
- Rani was returning to the squad after last playing against Belgium in the FIH Women’s Hockey Pro League 2021-22, where she won her 250th cap for India
India ranks third in terms of self-made billionaires, highlights 2023 Hurun Global Rich List
India has secured the third position in terms of the number of self-made billionaires, with a total of 105 billionaires on the list, according to the 2023 Hurun Global Rich List. These 105 billionaires have a combined wealth of US$ 381 billion, as per the report.
- According to the 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List, the number of billionaires in the world has decreased for the second time in ten years, with five billionaires being lost every week in the previous year. This year’s ranking includes 3,112 billionaires, which is a decrease of 269 compared to last year when the figure was 3,384.
- The two countries with the highest number of billionaires are China and the United States, which together account for 53 percent of the world’s billionaires.

Asia’s largest 4-metre liquid mirror telescope inaugurated in Uttarakhand
Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, inaugurated Asia’s largest 4-metre International Liquid Mirror Telescope at Devasthal, Uttarakhand, in the presence of Lt. Gen (Retd.) Gurmeet Singh, the Governor of Uttarakhand.
- The Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) has declared that the 4-meter International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) is operational and can now be used to observe the deep celestial sky. The telescope recorded its first light in the second week of May 2022 and is located on the Devasthal Observatory campus of ARIES in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
- ARIES is an independent institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Indian Government, situated at an altitude of 2450 meters.
