Government distributes over 23 crore soil health cards to farmers so far
More than 23 crore soil health cards have been distributed to farmers till date. Soil health card provides information to farmers on nutrient status of their soil along with recommendation on appropriate dosage of nutrients to be applied for improving soil health and its fertility.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the scheme on 19th February, 2015 at Suratgarh in Rajasthan. The Soil Health Card scheme has completed seven years now.
  • The scheme is aimed at issuing soil health cards to farmers every two years to provide a basis to address nutritional deficiencies in soil.

Chamba is Fifth aspirational district to become Har Ghar Jal, says Jal Shakti Ministry
Jal Jeevan Mission has achieved another milestone of providing tap water to every home of 100 districts in the country. Jal Shakti Ministry said, Chamba, an Aspirational District of Himachal Pradesh has become the 100th Har Ghar Jal District. The Ministry said, Chamba is the fifth aspirational district to become Har Ghar Jal.

  • Jal Jeevan Mission was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th August 2019, with the aim to provide an assured tap water supply to every rural home by 2024.

Assam government to launch ‘Project Arohan’ to hone students’ skills
Assam government will launch a four-year mentorship programme called Project Arohan to provide guidance to students and hone their skills.

  • In this regard, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Anita Rajan, CEO of Tata STRIVE, and skill development of Tata Trusts and sought corporation from them for the project.

Government approved to continue the Umbrella scheme of Border Infrastructure & Management (BIM) from ‪2021-22‬ to ‪2025-26
The Modi government has approved a Rs 13,020 crore central sector umbrella scheme for continuation of the Border Infrastructure and Management (BIM) during the 15th Finance Commission cycle from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

  • The decision will strengthen infrastructure for improving border management, policing and guarding, an official statement said.
  • The Narendra Modi government has approved the continuation of the central sector umbrella scheme of BIM over the 15th Finance Commission Cycle from 2021-22 to 2025-26, at a cost of Rs.13,020 crore, it said.

Govt approves implementation of Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System project
Government has approved the implementation of the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) project during the period 2022-23 to 2025-26. The  ICJS  is a national platform for enabling integration of the main IT system used for the delivery of Criminal Justice in the country.

  • The project will be implemented as a Central Sector Scheme at a total of  3,375 crore rupees. The phase two of the ICJS project will be a step towards ensuring effective and modern policing.
  • The ICJS system would be made available through a dedicated and secure cloud-based infrastructure with high-speed connectivity.  The National Crime Records Bureau will be responsible for the implementation of the project in association with the National Informatics Center.

Centre approves proposal to declare Upper Bhadra project as national project
The High Power Committee set up by the Central government has approved the proposal to declare the Upper Bhadra Project as a National Project.

  • This would enable the State to get Rs 12,500 crore grant from the Centre to implement the project.
  • Upper Bhadra is the only project which has been made a National Project. The project would bring huge tracts of land in Central Karnataka under irrigation. It would also raise the underground water table.


FM Nirmala Sitharaman participates in G20 Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors meeting under G20 Presidency of Indonesia
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the sessions on Sustainable Finance and Infrastructure on the second day of the ongoing G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting under G20 Presidency of Indonesia.

  • The 17th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit will take place in November this year in Bali, Indonesia.
  • Finance Minister supported the efforts being made for scaling up the sustainable finance instruments with a focus on improving accessibility and affordability.


Government of India, World Bank sign loan agreement of 115 million US dollar for implementation REWARD Project
The Government of India, State Governments of Karnataka and Odisha, and the World Bank have signed loan agreements of 115 million US dollars for the implementation of “Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development” (REWARD) Project.

  • It will help national and state institutions adopt improved watershed management practices to help increase farmers’ resilience to climate change, promote higher productivity and better incomes.
  • Ministry of Finance in a statement said that the Government of India has committed to restoring 26 million hectares of degraded land by 2030 and doubling farmers’ income by 2023.

South Indian Bank introduces two new services for customers
South Indian Bank has introduced two new services to further enhance both “remittances to” and “remittances from” abroad.

  • The bank has enabled online outward remittances through Net Banking and inward remittances through NPCI’s UPI mode, providing an enhanced experience, convenience and safety.
  • SIB online outward remittance facilitates Foreign Outward Remittance through the bank’s Internet Banking platform, “SIBerNet”.

MakeMyTrip’s fintech arm, TripMoney partners with SBM Bank India to launch Global Credit Card
MakeMyTrip said its fintech arm, TripMoney and SBM Bank India have joined hands to launch a rupee-denominated secure credit card, TripMoney Global Card. 

  • The company said this credit card is ‘highly secure’, offers various advanced money management features, and relieves overseas travellers from paying mark-up on forex conversions.
  • The card is powered by Visa and can be used across over 150 countries.

Edelweiss General Insurance partners Ashv Finance for MSME loan protection plans
Digital Insurer Edelweiss General Insurance (EGI) has joined hands with Ashv Finance, a tech-led NBFC present in over 100 locations in India, to offer financial protection to latter’s business loan borrowers, according to the insurer.

  • While Ashv is offering timely credit to fund the growth aspirations of small businesses and MSMEs, EGI will ensure that there are no brakes in achieving their dreams by offering health insurance cover to safeguard the financial interest of this very important segment.

HDFC Bank finances Asia’s largest waste to energy plant in Indore
HDFC Bank under its ESG commitment is proud to be associated with Indore Clean Energy Private Limited (ICEPL) for the development of 550 tonnes/day of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant – the largest Bio-CNG plant in Asia.

  • Indore Clean Energy Pvt Ltd (ICEPL) is promoted by Green Growth Equity Fund (GGEF), which is the largest climate impact fund in India with anchor investors like NIIF & Government of UK.
  • This is the largest waste to energy project funded by HDFC Bank under its ESG commitments and the plant is expected to treat 50 per cent of municipal waste generated in Indore City and convert to 100 per cent green products (biogas and manure). ICEPL has a 20-year concession agreement with Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) for procurement of municipal solid waste and converting it to CBG.

IIFL Home Finance signs $68-million loan agreement with ADB
IIFL HFL, has signed a USD 68 million loan with Asian Development Bank (ADB) to improve funding to affordable green housing for lower-income groups in India.

  • The funding comprises a direct ADB loan of up to USD 58 million and a USD 10 million concessional loan by the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in Asia (CFPS).
  • As per the press release, from ADB’s loan, 80% will be earmarked for lending to women borrowers or co-borrowers and 20% will be allocated to financing mortgages for green-certified homes.

Paytm Payments Bank becomes acquiring partner for e-RUPI service
Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) has become an official acquiring partner for e-RUPI vouchers, further making it accessible at offline stores across the country.

  • e-RUPI, which is a government initiative, is a cashless prepaid voucher that beneficiaries can present via SMS or QR Code. Paytm’s merchant partners can then scan, enter the amount to be paid and receive the payment directly in their bank account.
  • This will benefit beneficiaries (users), even those who do not have access to formal banking services or smartphones to avail the convenience of digital payments.


India’s fuel demand expected to grow 5.5% next fiscal
India’s fuel demand is likely to grow 5.5 percent in the fiscal year beginning April 1 as economic activity picks up after devastation caused by the pandemic, government estimates showed.

  • Fuel consumption in 2022-23 is estimated to rise to 214.5 million tonne from 203.2 million tonne expected sales in the current fiscal year ending March 2022, according to the oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).
  • It will cross the pre-pandemic level sales in the current fiscal. In 2019-20, India had consumed 214.1 million tonne of petroleum products such as petrol, diesel and LPG.

JICA gives green signal for Pune’s Rs 1,000-crore river clean-up project
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has green signalled the tendering process for a Rs 1,000-crore project for cleaning up Pune’s rivers, Mula, Mutha and Mula-Mutha (confluence of both rivers).

  • The pollution abatement of river Mula-Mutha had been delayed with issues of land acquisition, re-tendering and objection to the project.
  • The Mula and Mutha rivers are heavily polluted with the city’s sewage being dumped into the rivers. The project was aimed at improving the water quality by augmenting sewage collection systems and sewage treatment facilities in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) area.


Ranji Trophy: Bihar’s Sakibul Gani creates world record on first-class debut with incredible triple-century
Sakibul Gani scripted history when he became the first player to score a triple hundred on first-class debut. Gani, who made his debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy, slammed a triple-ton against Mizoram in the Plate Group match in Kolkata.

  • Gani scored 341 runs in 405 balls, slamming 56 fours and two sixes en route his knock. Interestingly, the previous record was also held by an Indian – Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rothera had scored 267 runs in the same tournament against Hyderabad in December 2018.


Gen MM Naravane presents Presidential Colours to four Para battalions
Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane presented Presidential Colours to four parachute battalions at Parachute Regiment Training Centre in Bengaluru.

  • The four battalions are the 11 Para (Special Forces), 21 Para (Special Forces), 23 Para, and 29 Para battalions.
  • The award of President’s Colours or the ‘Nishan’ is one of the highest honours bestowed upon a military unit in recognition of its exceptional service to the nation, both during the war and in peace.


Indigenous submersible vehicle Matsya 6000 will be ready as planned for Samudrayaan: NIOT Director
The indigenously developed manned underwater submersible vehicle capable of taking three humans to a depth of 6,000 m, Matsya 6000, will be ready as originally planned for its launch in 2024 for the Samudrayaan Mission, top official of National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, said.

  • The manned submersible, designed to carry three people in 2.1 meter diameter Titanium Alloy Personnel Sphere, is being developed by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and NIOT, Chennai, under the aegis of Deep Ocean Mission.
  • It will have an operational endurance of 12h and systems to support emergency endurance up to 96h for deep ocean exploration of non-living resources such as polymetallic manganese nodules, gas hydrates, hydro-thermal sulphides and cobalt crusts, located at a depth between 1,000 and 5,500 meters.


 ‘A Nation To Protect’ book by Priyam Gandhi
The book titled “A Nation To Protect” authored by Priyam Gandhi Mody was launched by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

  • The book highlights the role of PM Narendra Modi during the Covid crisis in the past two years. The book documents the Centre’s leadership in this unprecedented time and how it tided the nation through the crisis.
