Govt launches U-WIN to digitise India’s universal immunisation programme
After the success of the Co-WIN platform, the government has now replicated it to set up an electronic registry for routine vaccinations.

• Named U-WIN, the programme to digitise India’s Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) has been launched in a pilot mode in two districts of each state and Union Territory.
• The platform will be used to register and vaccinate every pregnant woman, record her delivery outcome, register every newborn delivery, administer birth doses and all vaccination events thereafter.

Chandigarh gets North’s largest floating solar power plant
Banwari Lal Purohit inaugurated North India’s largest floating Solar project of 2000kWp at Water Works in Chandigarh. He also inaugurated a 500kWp floating Solar Project with Fountains at Dhanas Lake in Chandigarh.

• The 2000kWp Floating Solar Power Plant at Water Works has been installed at a total cost of 11 crores 70 lahks and the 500kWp Floating Solar Power Plant with fountains have been installed at Dhanas Lake at a total cost of three crore 34 lakh rupees.

Low Carbon Cruise on Mahabahu Brahmaputra’ flagged off by Union Petroleum Minister
In a run-up to India Energy Week 2023 (IEW 2023) to be held in Bengaluru from 6-8 Feb 2023, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India Shri Hardeep S. Puri ceremonially inaugurated the demo-run of Inland Water Vessel powered by Methanol blended Diesel (MD15).

• The boat ride was done on a 50-seater motor launch marine vessel named ‘SB Gangadhar’. The marine vessel is equipped with two Ruston make diesel engines (each engine of 105 hp). The boat will be run on MD-15 (15% methanol blended HSD).

AU Bank launches credit card offering platform SwipeUp
AU Small Finance Bank, India’s largest Small Finance Bank, has launched SwipeUp platform that will provide an opportunity to other bank credit cardholders to upgrade their card to one of AU credit cards. The bank has provided a platform to compare existing credit cards of customers within seconds.

BUSINESS & ECONOMY

India among top 3 nations in expanding organic farming in 2020
India has emerged as one of the top three countries in the world where the area under organic agriculture expanded the maximum in 2020, according to latest data.

• IFOAM-Organics International said that organic farming will grow by 3 million hectares (mh) worldwide by 2020. Argentina will grow by 7.81 million hectares, which is a 21% increase. Uruguay will grow by 5.89 million hectares, which is a 28% increase, and India will grow by 3.59 million hectares, which is a 16% increase.

OPPO India partners with Common Services Centres under MeitY to train 10000 rural women as ‘Cyber Sanginis’
Mobile phone brand OPPO India has partnered with CSC Academy, the Education & CSR wing of Common Services Centres (CSC) under the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), for the Cyber Sangini program to empower women in rural and semi-urban areas by training them in the fundamentals of cybersecurity and cyber wellness.

OBITUARIES

Celebrated architect Balkrishna Doshi passes away at 95
Leading modern Indian architect, urban planner and educator Balkrishna Doshi passed away. He was 95. For his outstanding contribution to the field of architecture, he was conferred with Pritzker Prize in 2018 and the coveted Padma Shri in 1976.

• The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced that Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi will be the recipient of the 2022 Royal Gold Medal.
