Union Minister Parshottam Rupala launches NDDB’s subsidiary for manure management
Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala has launched NDDB MRIDA Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of National Dairy Development Board to take forward manure management initiatives across the country. It was launched at a function in New Delhi. National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has established NDDB MRIDA Limited, an Unlisted Public Limited Company under the Companies Act, 2013 on 1st of July this year.
- This is a first-of-its-kind company focussing on efficient utilisation of dung by creating a manure management value chain which will immensely contribute to enhancing the livelihoods of dairy farmers.
Govt sanctions over one crore 22 lakh houses so far under PMAY (U)
Government has sanctioned over 1 crore 22 lakh houses so far under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban. The scheme was launched in 2015 with the objective of providing all-weather pucca houses to urban beneficiaries with the vision of Housing for All.
Centre amends Flag Code to allow people to display tricolour 24X7
With the Centre launching the “Har Ghar Tiranga” (hoisting of the flag at every home in the country) campaign, it has also made changes in the Flag Code of India 2002 allowing the tricolour to be flown by the public both day and night.
- ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ will be celebrated from August 13 to 15 as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of a progressive independent India.
India to have joint theatre command of tri-services, says Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the setting up of joint theatre commands of the tri-services to enhance coordination among the armed forces.
- Singh said the country has started defence exports worth Rs 13,000 crore and it has fixed a target to increase it to Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 crore by 2025-26.

A grand statue of Amar Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad was installed in Bhopal on the 116th birth anniversary of Amar Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad on 23rd July. At the base of the statue, soil brought from Bhabra, the birthplace of Azad, was used and the statue site will be developed as a source of inspiration for the youth.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new A+ category for its umpires. Umpires in A+ and A categories are paid Rs 40,000 a day for a first-class game while Rs 30,000 a day are paid in the B and C category.
- ICC Elite Panel member Nitin Menon is among 10 officials grouped in the newly introduced A+ category of BCCI umpires.
- The others in the A+ category include four international umpires — Anil Chaudhary, Madangopal Jayaraman, Virender Kumar Sharma and K N Ananthapadmabhanan.
- Rohan Pandit, Nikhil Patwardhan, Sadashiv Iyer, Ulhas Gandhe and Navdeep Singh Sidhu are also part of the A+ category.

India’s Indermit Gill appointed Chief Economist of World Bank
World Bank has appointed Indian national Indermit Gill as its Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics.
- Mr Gill will succeed American economist Carmen Reinhart in the role and his appointment will be effective September 1, 2022. Mr Gill is currently Vice President for Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions, where he led work on macroeconomics, debt, trade, poverty, and governance.
- Mr Gill will be only the second Indian to serve as chief economist at the international financial institution after Kaushik Basu, who was Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2012 to 2016.
