NATIONAL NEWS

Indo – UK Joint Army Exercise from Dec 1

Indo – United Kingdom joint army training exercise Ajeya Warrior 2017 will be conducted between the Indian and United Kingdom Army from 01 to 14th December 1-14, 2017 at Mahajan field firing ranges in Rajasthan.

  • This will be the third joint military exercise between the two countries which have a history of extensive cooperation in the defence arena.

India to help Mauritius withdigital locker

With Mauritius showing keen interest in India’s DigiLocker service, India will be helping them to set up the service. The government will offer technical support and advisory services to Mauritius. 

Delhi to host International Geological Congress in 2020

Recently, a high level delegation of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) comprising its President Prof Qiuming Cheng, Secretary General Prof S C Finney, and Treasurer Prof H Kitazato visited India to discuss the preparatory aspects of the 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) to be held in Delhi, India in the year 2020.

  • India won the bid in 2012 at Brisbane, Australia to host the Congress in 2020.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Ayodhya Mahotsav in South Korea next year

‘Ayodhya Mahotsav’, depicting the cultural heritage of the temple town, would be staged in Seoul and Gimhe cities of South Korea next year. In return, a ‘Korea Festival’ will be held in Lucknow and Ayodhya.

  • An in-principle decision in this regard was made during the meeting of the UP government and a delegation from South Korea led by Mayor of Gimhe city Kim Wonman.

Gopi Thonakal becomes first Indian to win Asian Marathon C’ship

Gopi Thonakal became the first Indian man to win the Asian Marathon Championship held at China’s Dongguan.

Nirmala Sitharaman elected IDSA President

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been elected President of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA).

  • IDSA was set up in 1965 by the Ministry of Defence as an autonomous think tank, and it is customary to have the Defence Minister as its President.

Golden Temple awarded as the most visited place in the World

Shri Harmandir Sahib also known as Golden Temple and the Darbar Sahib has been awarded as the most visited place of the world. The holy Sikh Shrine is situated in Amritsar, Punjab. It is surrounded by a Sarovar which is fed by river Ravi. Book of World Records, London Awards Harmandir Sahib as the Most Visited Place of the World.

Rajasthani folk singer Mangi Bai Arya passes away

Rajasthani ‘Maand’ folk singer Mangi Bai Arya has passed away following an heart attack.

Constitution Day: 26 November

Constitution Day (National Law Day), also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of Constitution of India.

  • In 2015, government decided to observe 26th November as ‘Constitution Day’. On the day in 1949, the constitution was adopted which came into force on January 26, 1950 marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India.
