India to make moon journey 10yrs after 1st lunar mission

India’s second bid to explore Earth’s satellite is likely to start in March 2018. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), is set to start a lunar journey of the Chandrayaan-2 mission as early as March of next year.

  • ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar informed that flight integration activity is going on and a series of tests have been planned for lander and rover and that it is a totally Indian mission, no other collaboration.

‘Third Global Investors’ India Forum Held In New Delhi

New Delhi hosted the ‘Third Global Investors’ India Forum. The theme of the event was ‘Ideate, Innovate, Implement and Invest in India’ and it was attended by global industry stalwarts. In the forum, major focus was given on generation of electricity and its distribution across the country. The event was organized by the ASSOCHAM.

PM inaugurates global meet on consumer protection

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a two-day international conference on consumer protection in New Delhi.  Twenty-two countries from East, South and South-East Asia are participating in the international conference. These include China, South Korea, Singapore, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

  • This is the first time an international conference on consumer protection is being organised by India for countries of the region which account for a majority of the global consumers and share common challenges and experiences.

Madras HC bans photos of living persons on banners, hoardings in Tamil Nadu

The Madras high court has banned the use of pictures of living persons on banners and hoardings in Tamil Nadu, where towering cut-outs of politicians and actors are almost a part of the local culture.

  • The court asked Tamil Nadu’s top official to maintain a clean environment and also ensure that there were “no unnecessary drawings” on buildings and residential places in all wards of the southern state.

Chhattisgarh: 51 Hindu families migrated from Pak get Indian citizenship

As many as 51 Hindu families who had migrated from Pakistan several years ago and have been living on the outskirts of Raipur were granted Indian citizenship.

  • With this, Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country to award citizenship after Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the power to states to do so.

India has 3rd highest number of family-owned businesses

As per the Credit Suisse Research Institute’s (CSRI) latest “CS Family 1000” report, India has 108 publicly-listed family-owned businesses, third highest in the world, while China tops the tally with 167 such companies followed by the US which has 121.

Asia now has more billionaires than the US for first time

Asia now has the most billionaires in the world, surpassing the US for the first time, according to a report by UBS and PwC. The number of billionaires in Asia rose by 117 to 637, whereas the US added 25 billionaires for a total of 563 in 2016. However, US billionaires still control the most wealth at $2.8 trillion.

Nicaragua Signs Paris Climate Agreement.

Nicaragua has signed the Paris climate agreement, leaving the US and Syria as the only two countries out of the global pact. It was the only nation to reject the agreement arguing that it did not do enough to tackle the problem of climate change. The legally-binding pact aims to fight climate change by curbing global emissions of greenhouse gases.

World’s first 3D-printed bridge opens in Netherlands

A town called Gemert in the Netherlands has became home to the first 3D-printed cycling bridge ever. With this, Dutch cyclists can now pedal over the world’s first 3D-printed concrete bridge.

  • 3D printing is a method of manufacturing an object using a computer by placing layers of material one over the other.

SBI signs MoU with Escorts for tractor financing

State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector lender has signed an agreement with Escorts Ltd to finance farmers for purchase of Escorts tractors.



ECONOMY

India’s pension system more sustainable than others: Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index 2017

While India stands at the 28th position out of the 30 among the reviewed countries in the Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index 2017, its pension system is found to be more sustainable than that of Poland, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, Austria, Brazil, China and Argentina.

  • Denmark has retained the top position with an overall score of 78.9, ahead of the Netherlands and Australia at 78.8 and 77.1, respectively.

eBay acquires 5.4% stake in Flipkart

E-commerce major eBay has acquired a 5.4% stake in Flipkart, according to the company’s quarterly report filed with the US Securities and Exchange (SEC). The acquisition follows the sale of eBay India business to Flipkart for $211 million, which was completed in August. Earlier this year, eBay also invested $500 million into the Indian e-commerce startup.

Turkey to host World Rally Championship 2018

Turkey is all set to host the 10th installment of the ‘World Rally Championship’ (WRC) in September 2018 in Ankara, capital city of Turkey.

Gina Miller, an Indian-origin campaigner has been named the UK’s most influential black person of the year for winning a legal challenge that prevented British Prime Minister Theresa May from triggering Brexit without Parliament’s approval.

Legendary rhythm and blues pianist and singer-songwriter and rock and roll pioneer Fats Domino (Antoine Dominique Domino Jr. – American) has passed away.

  4. I’ve observed that in the world these days, video games will be the latest craze with kids of all ages. There are times when it may be unattainable to drag young kids away from the games. If you want the best of both worlds, there are numerous educational video games for kids. Good post.
