UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid arrives in India on a two-day visit
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra called on UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid in New Delhi. The UNGA President arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit to India.

  • Mr. Abdulla Shahid is also scheduled to meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and discuss the ongoing issues at the General Assembly, and India’s engagement with the United Nations.

PM dedicates to the nation, India’s first earthquake memorial, Smriti Van at Bhuj in Gujarat
PM Modi dedicated India’s first earthquake memorial, named Smruti Van at Bhuj in Gujarat. Smruti Van is a unique memorial carrying the names of more than 12 thousand people who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake that struck here in January 2001.

  • This novel memorial is spread across 470 acres of land and is built atop Bhujiyo hill. The earthquake simulator will provide real like experience of earthquake tremors to visitors.

PMJDY completes eight years;Accounts grew three-fold from 14.72 crore in March 2015 to 46.25 crore in Aug 2022
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana PMJDY, the National Mission for Financial Inclusion completed eight years of successful implementation on August 28th. More than 46.25 crore beneficiaries banked under PMJDY since inception, amounting to over one lakh 73 thousand crore rupees. PMJDY Accounts grew three-fold from 14.72 crore in March 2015 to 46.25 crore as on the 10th of August 2022.

  • 56 percent Jan-Dhan account holders are women and 67 percent of Jan Dhan accounts are in rural and semi-urban areas. 31.94 crore RuPay cards have been issued to PMJDY account holders.

Jitendra Singh unveils dedicated Website to give further boost to Coastal Clean-Up campaign
Union Minister for Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh unveiled a dedicated Website to give further boost to the ongoing Coastal Clean-Up campaign. The portal www.swachhsagar.org will give a push to the cleaning mission. Besides, Dr. Singh also launched the Campaign Logo-Vasuki, dedicated to the youth of the country as they along with the school students are taking keen interest in joining the coastal and beach cleaning activities.

India, US joint special forces exercise concludes in Himachal Pradesh
The 13th edition of India- USA Joint Special Forces Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR 2022 culminated at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh. Defence Ministry said, this exercise with the US Special Forces is significant in terms of security challenges faced by both Nations in the backdrop of the current global situation. The joint military exercise has further strengthened the traditional bond of friendship between the special forces of both Nations.

Supertech’s 40-storey twin towers in Nodia razed to ground over violation of construction laws
On 28th August 2022, the 40-storey Supertech’s twin towers- Apex and Ceyane were demolished at 2:30 PM in pursuance of Supreme Court’s order. According to the demolition firm Edifice Engineering, over 3,500 kg of explosives were used raze the nearly 100-metre-tall twin towers.

  • Reacting on the demolition of Noida twin towers, the realty firm Supertech said that plans for the twin towers were approved by the Noida authorities in 2009 and were strictly in accordance with the building bye laws that were in place at that time.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman says Indian Economy will grow at 7.4% this fiscal and next year
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the Indian economy will grow at the rate of 7.4 percent in the current fiscal as well as in the next year. She said, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have projected India’s growth to be the fastest for the next two fiscal years, and their estimates are in sync with that of the Reserve Bank of India.

Sports Ministry organises ‘Meet the Champion initiative’ in 26 schools on occasion of National Sports Day
Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry organised – Meet the Champion initiative in 26 schools across the country on the occasion of National Sports Day on 29th August. Few of the prominent athletes were the part of this initiative are Commonwealth Games and World Championships Gold Medalist Nikhat Zareen, Paralympics and CWG medalist Bhavina Patel, Tokyo Olympics and CWG medalist Manpreet Singh among others.

  • Meet the Champions is a unique school visit campaign that was kicked off by Olympic Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra in December last year.
  • Sports Authority of India will also be celebrating this year’s National Sports Day, as part of the FIT INDIA campaign, with the theme of Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society.

The NITI Aayog has declared holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand as the best aspirational district on five parameters. With this Haridwar has become entitled to receive additional allocation of ₹3 crore.
