IISc to be G20 science working group’s secretariat 
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been announced as the Secretariat for Science 20 (S20), the G20 summit’s science working group. With India’s presidency at the G20, IISc Bengaluru, has announced that it will be serving as the secretariat for S20.

  • Over the years G20 has been working towards addressing other global challenges as well, such as climate change mitigation and sustainable development. In a bid to work towards this purpose, it has set up several working groups, one of which is Science 20 or S20.
  • IISc stated that S20 will play a key role in helping resolve global issues like poverty and bring together the developments made by the G20 member states for development.

Centre, Manipur govt. sign peace pact with Naga armed group
The insurgent group Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) signed a peace agreement with the Union government and Manipur government.

  • Under the agreement, the ZUF agreed to give up violence and join the peaceful democratic process. The ZUF is mostly active in Manipur.


IRDAI to introduce ‘Bima Vahaks’ to expand Insurance Force
To enhance the insurance force in India, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) will soon introduce “Bima Vahaks” in each gram panchayat, Rakesh Joshi, a member of the insurance regulatory body, said.

  • Each Gram Panchayat will have a ‘Bima Vahak’ who would be tasked to sell and service simple parametric bundled insurance products, Bima Vistar, covering health, property, life and personal accident.

Indian Bank launches ‘MSME Prerana’ in the state of Rajasthan
Government of India owned Public Sector Bank, Indian Bank has launched its flagship business mentoring program for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) entrepreneurs – ‘MSME Prerana’ – in the state of Rajasthan.

  • “MSME Prerana”, is a first-of-its-kind initiative for the   MSME sector in the country by any bank.
  • It aims at empowering MSME Entrepreneurs through skill development and capacity building training in their local languages, assisting them in acquiring necessary financial and managerial skills, capacity to handle crisis in business, understanding of dynamics of credit rating and risk management.


Lovlina Borgohain, Nikhat Zareen win gold in Elite Women’s Boxing Championships 2022
Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen have won Gold medals at Women’s National Boxing Championship 2022 in Bhopal.

  • While Lovlina Borgohain beat Arundhati Choudhary of Services 5-0 in the 75kg final, Nikhat Zareen defeated Anamika of Railways 4-1 in the final of the 50kg category.
  • Haryana’s Manisha (57kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg), Railway Sports Promotion Board’s (SSCB) Sakshi (52kg), Madhya Pradesh’s Manju Bamboria (66kg) also clinched gold medals in their respective categories in the tournament.
  • The Railways team topped the medals tally with 10 medals – five golds, three silvers and two bronze. Madhya Pradesh, with one gold, two silver and five bronze stood second, while Haryana with two gold and two bronze claimed third position.


RBI approves Baskar Babu’s re-appointment as Suryoday Bank’s Chief for 3 years
Suryoday Small Finance Bank advanced 2.58% to Rs 109.35 after the bank said that the RBI has approved the re-appointment of Baskar Babu Ramachandran as the MD & CEO of the bank for a period of three years, effective from 23 January 2023.

  • Suryoday Small Finance Bank (Suryoday SFB) is a scheduled commercial bank. The bank has a wide presence across 13 states and UTs across India through its 565 banking outlets, with a strong presence in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.


Kerala’s Dharmadam becomes first complete library constituency in India
Dharmadam, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s constituency has achieved the position of complete library constituency in India, the first in India.

  • CM Vijayan said that out of the total 138 wards in the constituency, there were no libraries in 63 wards. Dharmadam reached the IRDAI to introduce ‘Bima Vahaks’ to expand Insurance Force

E-sports gets recognition from the Indian government as part of multisports events
In a a big move, The Government of India has officially recognised ‘E-Sports’ (Electronic Sports) as a part of Multi-sports events. Esports will be taken care of by the Department of Sports under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

  •  This is a prominent step towards regularizing an industry that brings in millions if not billions of dollars every year in terms of investments and expenditures. The Government has made its intentions and willingness to boost the digital economy and gaming (now can be called esports) in India.

Gouri Amma Foundation award for Cuban rights activist Aleida Guevara
KR Gouri Amma national award: Noted Cuban social worker and human rights advocate, Aleida Guevara has been selected for the first KR Gouri Amma national award  instituted by the K.R. Gouri Amma Foundation.

  • The award comprising $3,000, a statuette and citation will be given away by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a function to be held on January 5. Dr. Aleida is also an active member of the Cuban Medical Mission that works to improve the health profile of children in Latin America.

FSSAI gives five-star rating to Bulandshahr prison for food quality
The Bulandshahr prison of Uttar Pradesh was awarded a five-star rating and the tag ‘Eat Right Campus by the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI), informed a press release.

  • The FSSAI team inspected the kitchen’s food quality, storage and hygiene on stringent measures, based on which the Bulandshahr prison was given a five-star rating, the ‘Eat Right Campus’ tag in addition to the remark of ‘Excellent’ by the FSSAI.
  • Bulandshahr Jail is the second prison after Farrukhabad jail to get this tag from Uttar Pradesh.
