World’s highest electric vehicle charging station inaugurated in Himachal Pradesh’s Kaza
In a bid to promote a sustainable environment, the world’s highest electric vehicle charging station was inaugurated in Kaza of Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh.

  • Pune-based start-up goEgoNetwork specializing in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, installed Bharat AC and Dual Socket Type 2 chargers at Kaza, Spiti Valley in the western Himalayas at a height of 500 ft.

Country’s first Pan-India helpline for senior citizens: Elder Line (Toll Free No- 14567)
Government has taken a monumental step towards addressing the challenges and problems the elderly population face, through country’s first Pan-India toll-free helpline – 14567 — called ‘Elder Line’.

  • The helpline provides free information and guidance on pension issues, legal issues, extends emotional support, and even intervenes on field in cases of abuse, and rescues homeless elderly.
  • Till date, 17 states have already opened the Elder line and others are in the pipeline to be opened.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launches AmritGrand Challenge Program titled “जनCARE”
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched the “AmritGrand Challenge Program” titled “जनCARE” to identify 75 Start-Up Innovations in Telemedicine, Digital Health, mHealth with BIG Data, AI, Block Chain and other technologies.

  • The Minister said the launch of Grand Challenge coincides with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav launched by the Prime Minister.
  • Dr Jitendra Singh said, India’s Bio-Economy is on way to achieve 150 billion dollar target to contribute effectively to Prime Minister’s vision of a 5 trillion dollar economy by 2024-25. Addressing the BIRAC’s 10th Biotech Innovators Meet in New Delhi, he said the Sunshine Biotech Sector will more than double from 70 billion dollar at present to 150 billion dollar by 2025.

US, India launch task forces on Hydrogen, Biofuels to decarbonize energy sector
The US department of energy along with its Indian counterpart has launched new public-private task forces on Hydrogen and Biofuels to expand the use of clean energy technologies, an official statement said.

  • Under the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP), the department of energy together with Indian counterparts launched a new public-private Hydrogen Task Force as well as a Biofuels Task Force.
  • These groups will help expand the use of clean energy technologies to decarbonize the energy sector.


BANKING & FINANCE

ICICI Bank to offer instant OD to sellers registered on amazon.in
ICICI Bank announced that it has partnered with Amazon India to offer overdraft (OD) facility upto ₹25 lakh to individual sellers and small businesses registered on the e-commerce company’s online marketplace.

  • Sellers having current account with ICICI Bank can immediately start using the OD to meet their working capital requirements. Customers of other banks can avail the OD by simply opening a current account with the Bank digitally.
  • This new and improved process will help the sellers, who may otherwise not get access to adequate credit when assessed in the traditional way of using only balance sheets, bank statements and tax returns.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali announces retirement from Tests
England cricketer Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from Test cricket, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed.

  • Moeen, however, will continue to play limited-overs cricket for England. He scored 2914 runs in 64 Test at an average of 28.29 and has taken 195 wickets with his off-spin.
  • Since the 2019 Ashes, Moeen has made sporadic appearances for England in Tests and was recalled for the recently-concluded Test series against India, where he played three games.

Sania Mirza-Shuai Zhang win Ostrava Open women’s doubles title
India’s Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai won the women’s doubles title in the Ostrava Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic.This was Mirza’s 43rd career title.

  •  The second-seeded Indo-Chinese duo defeated the third seeded pair of American Kaitlyn Christian and New Zealander Erin Routliffe 6-3 6-2 in the summit clash in one hour and four minutes.

Debabrata Mukherjee elected chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations
United Breweries chief marketing officer Debabrata Mukherjee was unanimously elected as the chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for 2021-2022.

  • Pratap G Pawar, publisher member on the council, was unanimously elected as the deputy chairman of the bureau.
  • Debabrata Mukherjee is responsible for managing local and global brands like Kingfisher, Ultra, Heineken and Amstel. He has a wide range of professional experience in general management, marketing and sales operations, business strategy and innovation.


SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 

Haryana CM launches ‘Samarpan Portal’ for people to offer voluntary service
On the 105th birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyay, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched a web portal wherein people can register themselves to offer voluntary service in the fields of education, skill development, sports and agriculture.

  • The ”Samarpan Portal” will provide a platform to people wishing to do something good for society.
  • Voluntary services provided through the portal are linked with various programmes and initiatives of the government in the fields of education, women and child development, farmer welfare and skill development.

DRDO successfully flight tests Akash Prime missile
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) tested a new version of the Akash Missile ‘Akash Prime’ from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.

  • The missile intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target mimicking an enemy aircraft in its maiden flight test after improvements.
  • In comparison with the existing Akash System, Akash Prime is equipped with an indigenous active RF (radio frequency) seeker for improved accuracy. Other improvements also ensure more reliable performance under low temperature environments, at higher altitudes.

World Contraception Day
The international community observes World Contraception Day on 26 September to recognise the right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children.

  • It is a part of a worldwide campaign, which envisions that every pregnancy in the world should be wanted. It generates awareness of the different kinds of contraception that women can use.

World Rabies Day
World Rabies Day is observed on September 28 every year to raise awareness about the impact of the viral disease and how to prevent it.

  • This day is also observed globally to mark the death anniversary of French biologist, microbiologist and chemist, Louis Pasteur, who developed the first rabies vaccine.
  • This year’s World Rabies Day theme is: “Rabies: Facts, not Fear”. ·

International Day for Universal Access to Information
The International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) is celebrated every year on 28 September to spread awareness concerning the need to expand laws related to information and their implementation.

  • This year the theme for IDUAI is ‘The Right to Know — Building Back Better with Access to Information’.
