SBI launches ‘Unnati’ credit card

SBI Card, a leading credit card issuer, has launched a unique credit card ‘SBI Card Unnati’ targeted at all SBI customers, including Jan Dhan account holders throughout the country.

  • Tailored for new users of credit cards — those who do not have credit history, this new ‘SBI Card Unnati’ would have no annual fees for initial four years and offered through 20,000 plus SBI branches across India.

ICICI Bank partners Truecaller for UPI-based mobile payment

ICICI Bank has partnered with Truecaller to launch a UPI-based mobile payment service called ‘Truecaller Pay’.

  • It will allow users of the Truecaller app to instantly create a UPI id, send money to any UPI id or a mobile number registered with the BHIM app. It will also enable users to recharge their mobile number from within the app itself.

Tata AIA launches m-Insurance in partnership with TTSL

Tata AIA Life Insurance Co Ltd has joined hands with Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) to launch m-Insurance which they said would also bring the economically weaker sections under insurance cover.

  • m-Insurance provides life insurance cover of up to Rs. 1 lakh for the telecom company’s prepaid subscriber base in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as a pilot offer on select recharges.

India and Bavaria to Set up Joint Group to Identify Areas of Co-Operation in Water Sector

Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Sushri Uma Bharti has suggested formation of a joint group to identify areas of co-operation in water sector.

Odisha signs agreement with SBI on banking services and becomes first state to facilitate financial inclusion

The Odisha government has signed an agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI) to provide banking services through Self Help Groups (SHGs).

  • Odisha has become the first state to facilitate financial inclusion and extend banking services in unbanked areas through SHGs formed under Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM).

Railways’ new Vikalp scheme to help waiting-list passengers to travel in premium trains like Shatabdi, Rajdhani

The Indian Railways will roll out a new Vikalp scheme on April 1, under which wait-listed passengers can get an option to travel in premium trains like Shatabdi and Rajdhani.

  • Under the new reservation scheme called ‘Vikalp’, or alternate train accommodation scheme (ATAS), passengers who have booked tickets in other mail or express trains, can avail the option of travelling in premium trains to their booked destinations with no extra cost.
  • The aim to roll out such a scheme is to utilise vacant berths in premier trains.

AAI, DRDO and Jharkhand Govt. ink MoU for development of Deoghar Airport

The Airports Authority of India, the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Government of Jharkhand signed an MoU for the development of the Deoghar Airport in Deoghar district of Jharkhand.

  • The existing Deoghar Airport will be developed for operations of A-320 and C-130 Aircraft.

BDL, L&T sign MoU for export of torpedoes

Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), a defence public sector undertaking, has signed an MoU with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for export of torpedoes.

  • The torpedoes are designed and developed at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhaptnam and manufactured by BDL.

IIT Madras, Indian Army sign MoU

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) and the Indian Army have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to identify the critical technological areas that can be enhanced in the armed forces.

  • The objective was to facilitate prestigious institutions such as the IITs to achieve a better understanding of the critical technology requirements of the Indian Army through seamless interaction between the IITM faculty and the Army officers.

Truecaller partners with Google, Airtel, and ICICI Bank

Truecaller has announced a slew of updates for its app as well as new partnerships with Airtel, Google and ICICI bank.

  • The partnership with Airtel will bring Truecaller app to feature phones in India.
  • A new Truecaller payments service has been announced in collaboration with ICICI bank.
  • Google Duo has been integrated into the Truecaller app, allowing users to make video calls directly through it.

ESIC launched Mobile Clinic Services in AP, Telangana

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has launched Mobile Clinic Services for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

AIIMS, Sir Ganga Ram doctors get Dr B C Roy award

Eight doctors including Director Randeep Guleria from the AIIMS, and two from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital were awarded the prestigious Dr B C Roy Award for excellence in the field of medicine.

Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani has been inducted to the international advisory board of global think-tank Atlantic Council that has among its members former U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew K. Brzezinski and former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

  • The Atlantic Council is a foreign policy think-tank headquartered in Washington, DC.

Indian-American Vanita Gupta appointed president of ‘Leadership Conference’

Indian-American Vanita Gupta, who headed civil rights division in the Department of Justice in the Obama Administration, has been appointed as president and CEO of ‘The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights’, becoming the first woman to head the prestigious organisation.

IOC to supply Nepal 1 mn tonnes fuel for 5 years

State-run Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has signed an agreement to supply over 1 million tonnes (MT) of petroleum products annually to Nepal for the period April 2017 to March 2022.

  • IOC will supply Euro-IV grade petrol and diesel to Nepal.

India beat Australia to reclaim Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 2-1 series victory

India defeated Australia by eight wickets in the fourth and final Test at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium.

  • India have thus clinched the series 2-1 to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
