Centre Approves Meghalaya Govt’s Proposal for Setting Up Directorate of AYUSH: Minister

The Centre has approved the Meghalaya government’s proposal for setting up of the Directorate of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) in Meghalaya. The state government has also proposed another 22 health and wellness centres for the current financial year 2020-21.

DST selects Bengaluru startup for developing COVID risk assessment app

The Centre for Augmenting WAR with COVID-19 Health Crisis (CAWACH), an initiative by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), has selected Bengaluru-based startup Acculi Labs to develop a COVID-19 risk assessment profile called ‘Lyfas COVID score’.

  • Acculi Labs is armed with ‘Lyfas’ – a clinical-grade, non-invasive, digital functional biomarker smartphone tool for screening, early detection, root cause analysis, acute event risk assessment, prognosis, and home monitoring of chronic diseases.

TN Govt Renames Three Metro Rail Stations in Chennai After Annadurai, MGR & Jayalalithaa

The Tamil Nadu government announced renaming of three Metro Rail stations in Chennai after late Chief Ministers CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

  • According to a government order, the Alandur station will be called ‘Arignar Anna Alandur Metro’, the Central Metro as ‘Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Metro’ and the CMBT station as ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Dr J Jayalalithaa CMBT Metro.’

Northern Railway runs first-ever Vyapar Mala Express train

Northern Railway ran first-ever Vyapar Mala Express train on August 1, 2020. The train was destined for Jirania in Tripura has 46 wagons.

  • It will help small traders in moving their cargo through Railways, in a short time, cost effective, convenient and environment-friendly mode of transportation.

UAE becomes 1st Arab Nation to open a Nuclear Power Plant

The United Arab Emirates became the first Arab country to open a nuclear power plant, when the Unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Plant in Abu Dhabi, got operational on 31 July 2020.

  • The plant is powered by South Korean technology and is situated in the Al Dhafrah region of Abu Dhabi.

Indian govt gives nod to hold tournament in UAE

The Indian Government has provisionally granted permission for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League’s (IPL’s) 2020 to be rescheduled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19 to November 10, 2020, due to COVID-19 outbreak. BCCI has also decided to host a Women’s T20 Challenge to be held from November 1 to 10 in UAE.

India withdraws from women’s world team Squash championship

Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) has withdrawn from the women’s world team Squash championship scheduled in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 15th to 20th December, due to lack of preparation, time and match-readiness of its players.

Lewis Hamilton wins British Grand Prix 2020

Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton has won the Formula One British Grand Prix 2020 held at the Silverstone Circuit, United Kingdom. Max Verstappen (Red bull) ended up second in this F1 race while Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) came third. This is the third win for Hamilton in this season of F1 races.

Air Marshal V R Chaudhari takes over as chief of IAF’s Western Air Command

Air Marshal V. R. Chaudhari took over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Air Command of Indian Air Force. He took over command from Air Marshal B Suresh.

  • Air Marshal V. R. Chaudhari was commissioned into fighter stream of the IAF in 1982 as a Fighter Pilot.

Mohamed Irfaan Ali named as President of Guyana

Former Guyanese housing minister, Mohamed Irfaan Ali has been named as the President of the country. He is a member of the opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP). He succeeds David Arthur(A.) Granger.

Cabinet Minister in the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Kamal Rani Varun passed away due to COVID-19. She was the minister of technical education in the state government.

Former AP Minister P Manikyala Rao passes away

Former Andhra Pradesh Minister, Pydikondala Manikyala Rao passed away due to COVID-19. He was born on November 1, 1961. He was a Senior BJP leader.
