India and Australia sign a Framework Mechanism for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications
India and Australia signed a Framework Mechanism for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications that will help ease the mobility of students and professionals between the two countries.

  • While the two countries will recognise the degrees, professional registrations of engineering, medicine and law pass outs will remain outside the framework’s ambit.
  • The agreement was signed following a bilateral meeting here between Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and his Australian counterpart Jason Clare, who is on a five-day visit to India

UAE tops Mena in World Bank’s women in business report
According to the annual World Bank report, which covers 190 countries, the UAE scored 82.5 out of 100 possible points across 35 sub indicators divided into eight major areas of the report: Mobility, Workplace, Pay, Marriage, Parenthood, Entrepreneurship, Assets, and Pension.It is worth noting that the UAE is a regional and global leader in enacting legislation and regulations that support women’s rights and workplace roles.

  • The UAE’s commitment to this cause dates back to 2012, when the UAE Cabinet passed legislation requiring the presence of women on the boards of government entities, making the UAE the first country in the region and the second in the world to do so.
  • United Arab Emirates Women, Business and the Law 2023 (WBL2023) presents an index covering190 economies and structured around the life cycle of a working woman. In total, 35 questions are scored across eight indicators. Overall scores are then calculated by taking the average of each indicator, with 100 representing the highest possible score.


BANKING & FINANCE

RBI launches 2 surveys to gather ‘useful inputs’ for monetary policy
The Reserve Bank of India launched two key surveys, results of which provide “useful inputs” for the central bank’s bi-monthly monetary policy.

  • One of the surveys is to know inflation expectations of households and the other is to gauze the consumer confidence.
  • The March 2023 round of Inflation Expectations Survey of Households (IESH), RBI said, aims at capturing subjective assessments on price movements and inflation, based on their individual consumption baskets, across 19 cities.
  • The cities are: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram.

Indian Bank ties up with Toyota Kirloskar Motor to offer vehicle financing
Public sector Indian Bank has inked a pact with automaker Toyota Kirloskar Motor to offer vehicle financial options to its customers, the bank said.

  • The tie-up would offer various initiatives including 90 per cent on-road funding with no processing fee, foreclosure and party payment charges to prospective customers.
  • The development will now enable bank’s customers, especially in the rural and semi-urban markets to buy their vehicles from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the city-headquartered Indian Bank said.

Jeswin Aldrin breaks national record in men’s long jump 
Tamil Nadu athlete Jeswin Aldrin broke the national record in the Long Jump with a massive leap of 8.42 meters in the second AFI National Jumps Competition in Bannihatti.

  • Aldrin comfortably went past Murali Sreeshaknkar’s 8.36m jump set in 2022.
  • Aldrin, who had won silver at the Asian Indoor Championships in Astana last month with a 7.97-metre effort, made the most of being in a competitive frame to break the national record.

Asian Chess Excellence Awards 2023: Gukesh receives Player of the Year and AICF bags Most Active Federation
Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has been honoured with Player-of-the-Year award by the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) for clinching the gold medal with a record-breaking score of 9/11 in the 44th Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram.

  • Gukesh became only the sixth Indian to break the 2700 Elo-rating mark, and the youngest Grandmaster from the country to be rated above 2700.
  • The All India Chess Federation (AICF) bagged the ‘Most Active Federation’ award conferred during the ACF annual summit, which is underway here.
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has been conferred with Man-of-the-Year award for his effort in the successful hosting of the FIDE Chess Olympiad in August last year within a short notice of four months.
  • The Indian women’s team, comprising of Koneru Humpy, D Harika, R Vaishali, Tania Sachdev and Bhakti Kulkarni, was adjudged the ‘Best Women’s team of the Year’ for its bronze-winning effort.
  • Grandmaster R B Ramesh bagged the men’s Coach-of-the-Year award and Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte won the Women’s Coach-of-the-Year awards.

HDFC Bank’s Sashidhar Jagdishan is ‘BS Banker of the Year 2022’
Sashidhar Jagdishan, managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of HDFC Bank, has been chosen as the Business Standard Banker of the Year 2022, as the lender continued its strong performance under his leadership while successfully navigating through technology-related challenges.

  • An eminent five-member jury, chaired by former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor S S Mundra, picked the CEO of the largest private sector bank of the country as the winner.

IBM awards Five Star Rating to NMDC Mines
NMDC’s iron ore mines – Kirandul Deposit – 14 MZ, Kirandul Deposit – 14 NMZ and Bacheli Deposit – 5, have been awarded 5 ratings by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) in Nagpur.

  • The Union Minister of Coal , Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, presented the award to NMDC’s Director of Production, Shri Dilip Kumar Mohanty.
  • NMDC’s mines consistently feature in the best performing mining leases of the country and receive a 5-star rating in the Star Rating System of IBM, the Ministry of Mines. The mines are assessed based on their efforts and initiatives taken for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Framework (SDF).

Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare receives Porter Prize 2023
In a major recognition of the efforts in the health sector and COVID management, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has received the Porter Prize 2023, at the event organised by Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) and Stanford University.

  • The India Dialog at Stanford University. The country’s contribution in developing and manufacturing vaccines was also lauded.
  • The theme of the two-day conference was The Indian Economy 2023: Innovation, Competitiveness and Social Progress.

NTPC commissions India’s first Air cooled condenser at North Karanpura Super Critical plant in Jharkhand
NTPC has commissioned India’s first Air cooled condenser installed Super Critical plant to demonstrate its Commitment towards water conservation through reduce, reuse and recycle.

  • NTPC has commissioned India’s first Air cooled condenser installed Super Critical plant to demonstrate its Commitment towards water conservation through reduce, reuse and recycle.
  • This project has been envisaged with Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) which has almost 1/3rd water footprint as compared to a conventional Water Cooled Condenser (WCC). This would result in water saving of around 30.5 mcm annually thus fulfilling the needs of around 1.5 million people in the region annually.
