India offers $100 mn financial aid to Benin during President Kovind’s state visit

India offered concessional financial assistance of USD 100 million to Benin with an aim to help the West African country meet its Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Two MoUs were also signed, including an MoU in the field of export credit and investment insurance, and another on the e-VBAB network project, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

5,645 electric buses sanctioned for 65 cities: Amitabh Kant

Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said an inter-ministerial panel has sanctioned 5,645 electric buses for operations in 65 cities, a move seen towards environment-friendly mobility. The Centre has been taking initiatives to popularise environment-friendly electric vehicles.

Govt sets 100% digitization target of all Waqf properties in its first 100 days

The government has set a target to achieve 100 per cent digitization of waqf properties across the country in its first 100 days.

J&K District Administration Udhampur launches helpline “Jeene Do”

In Jammu and Kashmir, District Administration Udhampur has launched a helpline, “Jeene Do”. The objective is to improve sex ratio and deal with defaulters of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques or PCPNDT Act under the Centrally sponsored Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.

Odisha Secretariat renamed Lok Seva Bhawan: CM Patnaik

Odisha state secretariat or ‘Sachivalaya’ has been renamed as Lok Seva Bhawan, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced in the state Assembly.

  • The Odisha secretariat building was inaugurated on November 12, 1959, by the then Home Minister Govind Ballabh Pant.

India, Russia sign Rs 1,500 crore deal for air-to-air missiles to be used by Su-30

Boosting its capabilities in beyond visual range warfare, India has signed a deal worth around Rs 1,500 crore to acquire R-27 air-to-air missiles from Russia to be equipped on the Su-30MKI combat aircraft.

Nepal PM inaugurates India-Nepal Logistics Summit

KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal inaugurated India-Nepal Logistics Summit between India and Nepal in Kathmandu.

  • The theme of the summit was “Transforming Logistics Landscape”.
  • The aim of the bilateral cooperation is initiatives have been taken on crucial components of road, rail, inland waterways and air connectivity.

Pakistan opens 1000-year-old Shawala Teja Singh temple in Punjab for worship after 72 years

Pakistan has opened a 1,000-year-old Hindu temple in eastern city Sialkot for “worship” for the first time since partition on the demand of the local Hindu community.

  • The Shawala Teja Singh temple, located in city’s congested Dhaarowal locality, some 100-km from Lahore, is more than 1,000 years old, according to the book ‘History of Sialkot’ by the late Rashid Niaz.

BCCI suspends Prithvi Shaw for ‘doping violations’

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended India batsman Prithvi Shaw for “doping violations”.

  • The cricket governing body stated that it has recovered Terbutaline from the urine sample, provided by the 19-year-old cricketer during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on 22nd February 2019 in Indore.

Rajiv Kumar appointed Finance Secretary

Rajiv Kumar, Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, has been named the new Finance Secretary to take the place of Subhash Chandra Garg, who was shunted to the Power Ministry.

Indian Federation of Sports Gaming appoints Justice A.K. Sikri as ombudsman

The Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG), country’s self-regulatory industry body for the online fantasy sports gaming sector, announced the appointment of Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri as its ombudsman and ethics officer.

Vidisha Baliyan was crowned the Miss Deaf World 2019 title

Vidisha Baliyan, a 21 year old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar city, was crowned the Miss Deaf World 2019 title in Mbombela, South Africa.

  • She is a former international tennis player who represented India in the Deaflympics and also won a silver medal.

DD News gets Champions of Empathy Award

DD News is awarded with Champions of Empathy Award for spreading awareness about hepatitis. Director General of DD News, Mayank Agrawal received the Award from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Former Andhra Pradesh congress state Minister M. Mukesh Goud passed away. The Congress leader was suffering from cancer.

Veteran poet and lyricist M. K. Seetharam Kulal passed away

Tulu-Kannada dramatist, veteran poet, lyricist, Ex-President of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, writer of popular Tulu song “Mokeda Singeri” M. K. Seetharam Kulal (76) has passed away.

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

July 30 has been designated by the United Nations as the “World Day against Trafficking in Persons”. Human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children and men for numerous purposes including forced labour and sex. Since 2003 the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has collected information on about 225,000 victims of trafficking detected worldwide.

  • The theme of 2019 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is “Call your government to action.”

TN celebrates ‘Hospital Day’ on Muthulakshmi Reddy’s

The Tamil Nadu government announced ‘Hospital Day’ celebrations to be held every year on July 30, the birth anniversary of one of the country’s prominent successful woman doctors in the early 20th century and the State’s first woman legislator Muthulakshmi Reddy.
