Tourism Ministry launches National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and Responsible Traveller Campaign
Tourism Ministry has launched the National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and Responsible Traveller Campaign. The Ministry, in partnership with the United Environment Program and Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) organized National Summit on Developing Sustainable and Responsible Tourist Destinations in New Delhi.

India and Senegal sign MoUs for cultural exchange, cooperation in youth matters and visa free regime for officials
India and Senegal have signed three MoUs for cultural exchange, cooperation in youth matters and visa-free regime for officials. The MoUs were signed after delegation-level talks between Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and President of Senegal Macky Sall in the capital city of Dakar.

  • During the meeting, Mr. Naidu assured Senegal of India’s continued commitment to support the socio-economic development of that country through all means, bilateral, regional and international frameworks.

Telemedicine service ‘eSanjeevani’ integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission
The National Health Authority (NHA) has announced the successful integration of National Telemedicine Service- eSanjeevani with its flagship scheme- Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

  • The integration allows the existing users of e-Sanjeevani to easily create their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) and use it to link and manage their existing health records like prescriptions and lab reports, etc. The users would also be able to share their health records with doctors on eSanjeevani which will help in better clinical decision making and ensuring the continuum of care.

Special Health Care Abhiyan ‘Anchal’ launched for pregnant women in Rajasthan’s Karauli
In Rajasthan, a Special Health Care Abhiyan ‘Anchal’ has been launched in the Karauli district for pregnant women. More than 13 thousand women have benefited from this Abhiyan.

  • During the campaign, 13,144 pregnant women were tested for their hemoglobin levels, out of which 11,202 were found to be anemic. These women were advised to take the right medicine and necessary nutritious diet. They were also advised to keep themselves stress-free.

INS Nishank and Akshay decommissioned after rendering 32 years of glorious service
Indian Naval Ships (INS)-‘Nishank’ and ‘Akshay’ were decommissioned after rendering 32 years of glorious service to the nation. The ceremony was conducted at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai wherein the National Flag, Naval Ensign and Decommissioning Pennant of the two ships were lowered for the last time at sunset.

  • INS Nishank and INS Akshay were constructed and commissioned at Poti Shipyard in present-day Georgia. They were in active naval service for more than 32 years and participated in a number of naval operations including Operation Talwar during the Kargil War and Operation Parakram that was launched consequent to the Parliament attack in 2001.

IAF heritage centre to come up in Chandigarh
The UT Administration of Chandigarh and the Indian Air Force (IAF) signed an MoU on the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre coming up at the Government Press building in Sector 18, Chandigarh.

  • The centre will have simulators, decommissioned aircraft, aero engines and other IAF artefacts. The centre will include virtual reality and AI technology.
  • It will be informative and motivate our youth to join the armed forces. This will also provide job opportunities to the youth. The centre will highlight the crucial role of the IAF in various wars and assistance rendered by IAF for civil air operations.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

UN approves Turkey’s request to change name to Turkiye
The United Nations granted Turkey’s request to change its name from Turkey to Turkiye.

  • The change came into force immediately at the time when the world body received a letter from Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to the UN chief with a request to change the country’s name, the spokesman said.
  • Cavusoglu reportedly said that the change in the spelling was adopted as part of the steps aimed at increasing the country’s prestige in the international arena.


BUSINESS & ECONOMY

Tata Projects wins EPC contract for Noida International Airport
Tata Projects will build the national capital region’s new airport at Jewar, after outbidding the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and Larsen & Toubro for the contract. While the deal size has not been disclosed, sources pegged it at over Rs 6,000 crore.

  • Tata Projects, the infrastructure and construction arm of the Tata group, will construct the terminal, runway, airside infrastructure, roads, utilities, landside facilities and other ancillary buildings at the Noida International Airport.

Govt approves 8.1% interest rate on EPF deposits for 2021-22, lowest since 1977-78
The central government approved an 8.1 percent rate of interest on employees’ provident fund deposits for the 2021-22 fiscal. This is the lowest since 1977-78 when the EPF interest rate stood at 8 percent.

  • Earlier in March this year, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had decided to lower the interest on provident fund deposits for 2021-22 to 8.1 percent from 8.5 percent provided in 2020-21.

Meghalaya wins Best Project Award at UN World Summit
The Meghalaya government key initiative of e-proposal system, part of Meghalaya Enterprise Architect has won a coveted UN Award- World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) prize at Geneva in Switzerland.

  • According to a agency report, the state received the best project award in the category of the role of governments in the promotion of ICTs for development.
  • A total of 360 projects nominated from different countries passed the test of the UN jury, the report said.
