NATIONAL NEWS

Govt launches ‘Stree Manoraksha Project’ to improve women’s mental health
The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) launched the ‘Stree Manoraksha Project’ in collaboration with NIMHANS Bengaluru with an aim to improve the mental health of women in India.

  • The project would focus on building on capacity building of OSC (One-Stop Center) functionaries on the tools and techniques as to how to handle the cases of women approaching the One-Stop Centres, particularly the women who have suffered violence and distress with due sensitivity and care.
  • The one-stop centre provides assistance to women in medical, legal, and crime-related matters. This advanced training program will also be given in all those regional languages in which they want it to be easy for them to understand.

Govt approves over Rs 1,682 crore of additional Central assistance NDRF to five states, one UT
The Government has approved over 1,682 crore rupees of additional Central assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund to five States and one Union Territory. The High Level Committee under the Chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah cleared over 351 crore rupees to Andhra Pradesh, over 112 crore to Himachal Pradesh and over 492 crore to Karnataka.

  • More than 355 crore rupees have been granted to Maharashtra, around 353 crore to Tamil Nadu and around 18 crore rupees to Puducherry.
  • During the financial year 2021-22, the Central Government has released over 17,747 crore rupees to 28 States and around 4,646 crore rupees to eight States from NDRF.

MoU signed to promote Start-up in latest Daylight Harvesting Technology
The Ministry of Science and Technology has decided to promote a unique Start-up in latest Daylight Harvesting Technology in order to reduce carbon footprint and improve the building’s energy efficiency.

  • The Ministry of Science and Technology said that the only Start-up company in India for Daylight Harvesting Technologies “Skyshade Daylights Private Limited” Hyderabad signed an MoU with the Department of Science and Technology.

Rajasthan govt announces ‘Camel Protection and Development Policy’
Rajasthan, the state government has announced a ‘Camel Protection and Development Policy’ in its budget 2022-23.

  • According to the government figures, less than two lakh camels are left in Rajasthan and in the entire country, the number of camels has reduced by 1.5 lakh since 2012. There were about 2.5 lakh camels left when counted last in 2019.
  • Camel is the state animal of Rajasthan and their number is continuously decreasing.

CDSL becomes 1st depository with 60 million active demat accounts
Central Depository Services (India) said it now has more than six crore plus (60 million) active demat accounts.

  • Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) is India’s only listed depository.

IIT Kanpur develops biodegradable nanoparticle to protect crops from diseases
Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have developed a biodegradable nanoparticle that can be used as an alternative to chemical-based pesticides and help farmers protect their crops from bacterial and fungal infections.

  • Coined Biodegradable Carbonoid Metabolite (BioDCM), the nanoparticle can remain active at low concentration and can be as effective as pesticides without having any negative impact on soil and health of consumers.
  • IIT Kanpur claims it acts fast as it is applied in bioactive form and can withstand high temperature.

Herath celebrated with religious fervour in J&K
Maha Shivratri, locally known as ‘Herath’, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu and Kashmir

  • Pandits paid obeisance at temples and offered Puja on the occasion. The biggest gathering on the festival was held at Shankaracharya Temple overlooking the Dal Lake in Srinagar.
  • The special prayers were also held at Ganpatyar and Hanuman Temple at Amira Kadal in Srinagar throughout the day.

19th India-US Military Cooperation Group meeting held in Agra
The 19th edition of India-US Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting was held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh on March 01-02, 2022. The meeting was co-chaired by Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) Air Marshal BR Krishna from the Indian side and Deputy Commander, US Indo-Pacific Command Lieutenant General Stephen D Sklenka from the US side.

  • The discussions focussed on strengthening the ongoing defence engagements between the two sides and mulled on new initiatives under the ambit of the existing cooperation mechanism.

India, Pakistan most vulnerable to climate change: IPCC Report
The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report has cautioned that the extreme climatic conditions are threatening the food security in South Asia with escalated droughts and floods making India and Pakistan the most vulnerable to climate change. The second installment of the IPCC Report titled ‘Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptations, and Vulnerability’ was released on February 28, 2022.

RBI cancelled licence of Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank
Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the license of Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank, Sangli, Maharashtra, as it did not have adequate capital and earning prospects.

  • With the cancellation of the licence, Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank Ltd has ceased to carry on banking business with effect from the close of business hours on 2 March.
  • The bank is not complying with various sections of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

Tata Motors launches ‘showroom on wheels’ for doorstep car buying
Auto giant Tata Motors Ltd introduced a new initiative for ‘showroom on wheels’ also called ‘Anubhav’, which is a door-step car buying experience for rural customers. In line with the company’s rural marketing strategy, the new initiative is aimed to help increase its reach in tehsils and talukas.

  • A total of 103 mobile showrooms are being deployed across the country to enhance the Tata Motors brand awareness in rural India.
  • These mobile showrooms will help existing dealerships offer a doorstep sales experience to customers and assist them with information about Tata Motors’ products.

HPCL signs MoU with SECI for renewable energy, electric mobility, alternative fuels
The Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) has inked a pact for cooperation and collaboration in the field of renewable energy, electric mobility, and alternative fuels including the development of ESG Projects, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said.

  • The MOU envisages cooperation and collaboration in the field of Renewable Energy, Electric Mobility, and alternative fuels including the development of ESG Projects.

DST tieup with Intel India to boost AI readiness
‘Building AI Readiness among Young Innovators’, a program by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, in partnership with Intel India, was launched on the occasion of National Science Day on 28th February by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology(I/C), Government of India.

  • The program aims to build digital readiness among the students from classes 6 to 10, enrolled under DST’s INSPIRE-Awards MANAK scheme.
  • The flagship program of DST reaches out to students pan India with an aim to create a culture of creativity and innovative thinking.


OBITUARIES

Film critic Jai Prakash Chouksey passes away
Noted film critic Jai Prakash Chouksey has passed away. He had been ill for a long time.

  • At the age of 83, he had made a different identity with his column ‘Perde Ke Peche’.
  • Jai Prakash Chouksey’s last article was titled, ‘Dear Readers… This is a farewell, not a goodbye, I can face the lightning of thought again, but the possibilities are zero’.

Legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne passes away
Shane Warne, one of the greatest spinners cricket has ever seen, has passed away. He was found unresponsive in his villa and could not be revived. It was a twin blow for Australia after wicket-keeping legend Rodney Marsh succumbed earlier in the day and Warne had tweeted condolences to his senior.

  • The leg-spinner was part of World Cup and Ashes winning squads and after his retirement in 2007, donned various roles linked to cricket, be it as a coach or commentator.
