Govt sets target of increasing Natural Gas in primary energy mix by 15% by 2030
The Government has set a target of increasing Natural Gas in the primary energy mix by 15 per cent by 2030. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameshwar Teli said, at present, the use of Natural Gas is only 6.3 percent.

  • To increase the Natural Gas usage, Mr. Teli said initiatives like the expansion of National Gas Grid to 33 thousand 500 kilometers, expansion of City Gas Distribution network, setting up of Liquefied Natural Gas terminals and allocation of domestic gas to CNG for transport and PNG for domestic purposes are taken.

4.85 lakh accounts of street vendors under PM SVANidhi Scheme have become Non-Performing Assets till July 27, says Govt
The government said, under the PM SVANidhi Scheme, 4.85 lakh accounts of street vendors have become Non-Performing Assets with a total amount of 344 crore rupees till the 27th July 2022.

  • As per information submitted by the Lending Institutions with Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Mircro and Small Enterprises, a total of 3,700 crore rupees have been disbursed by the lending institutions.

PM Modi launches various projects of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission at Dharampur in Gujarat
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission, Dharampur in Valsad district, Gujarat via video conferencing.

  • Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said hospital projects will prove to be of great service to women and other needy sections of society. He praised the spirit of silent service of the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission.

DRDO successfully test fires indigenously developed laser-guided ATGMs
The indigenously developed Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Guided Missiles ATGM were successfully test-fired from Main Battle Tank MBT Arjun by Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO and Indian Army at KK Ranges with support of Armoured Corps Centre and School Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.

  • The missiles hit with precision and successfully destroyed the targets at two different ranges. Telemetry systems have recorded the satisfactory flight performance of the missiles.

India, US to hold mega military exercise in Uttarakhand’s Auli in October
India and the US will conduct a fortnight-long mega military exercise in Uttarakhand’s Auli in October this year. The 18th edition of exercise “Yudh Abhyas” is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 31. A number of complex drills are being planned for the mega exercise. The exercise is aimed at enhancing understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the two armies.

  • The last edition of the exercise took place in October last year in Alaska in the US.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

US Senate approves Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO
The United States Senate has approved Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO. The vote on easily surpassed the two-thirds majority needed to back the ratification of the accession documents, with 95 Senators voting in support.

IOCL signs MoU with Bangladesh for emergency supply of petroleum goods
The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) signed an MoU with the Bangladesh Roads and Highways department in Dhaka for the emergency supply of petroleum goods via Bangladesh territory to India.

  • This is an interim set up to facilitate urgent supply of petroleum products due to damage caused by the flood in Assam this year.

2022 World Cadets Wrestling Championships
The 2022 World Cadets Wrestling Championships (U17) was World Cadets Wrestling Championships of combined events, which took place from July 25 to 31 in Rome, Italy.

  • India has also topped the medals tally with 14 medals including 7 Golds and a Gold in Greco Roman after 32 years.

Gold medals:

  • Men’s freestyle (80 kg): Mor Sachin
  • Men’s Greco-Roman (55 kg): Suraj Suraj
  • Women’s freestyle (40 kg): Muskan
  • Women’s freestyle (43 kg): Ritika
  • Women’s freestyle (61 kg): Savita
  • Women’s freestyle (69 kg): Harshita
  • Women’s freestyle (73 kg): Priya


APPOINTMENTS

Sanjay Arora to be the new Delhi Police commissioner
Sanjay Arora, Director General of the ITBP and a 1988-batch officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed as next Delhi Police Commissioner. Mr Arora, was appointed the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) DG in August last year and he took charge of the India-China LAC guarding force on September 1st. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana’s tenure has ended.

Pranay Kumar Verma appointed India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh
A seasoned diplomat and IFS officer of 1994 batch Pranay Kumar Verma has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam.

  • Simultaneously, Sandeep Arya, an IFS officer of 1994 batch has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He is currently posted as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
