Government approves Central Sector Broadcasting Infrastructure & Network Development Scheme with outlay of over Rs. 2,539 crore up to 2025-26
The Government has approved Central Sector Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) Scheme with an outlay of over two 2,539 crore rupees up to 2025-26

  •  Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the scheme will financially support Prasar Bharati in the expansion and upgradation of its broadcasting infrastructure, content development, and civil works. 
  • This will also provide high-quality content to viewers.  infrastructure and services. 

PM Modi takes part in All-India State Ministers Conference on Water in Madhya Pradesh
The Union Jal Shakti Ministry is organizing a national level conference on water on the theme of ‘Water Vision@2047’ in Bhopal.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi sharing his remarks at the all-India water ministers’ meet on the theme ‘Water Vision@2047’ which brings together key policy makers to discuss “ways to harness water resources for sustainable development”.
  • The conference will have five thematic sessions viz water security in water deficit; water surplus and hilly regions; water use efficiency including reuse of waste water/ grey water; water governance; climate change resilient water infrastructure; and water quality.

J&K: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurates Bailey Suspension Bridge over river Chenab in Ramban district of Jammu division
In Jammu and Kashmir, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the Bailey Suspension Bridge over river Chenab in the Ramban district of the Jammu division. 

  • The 240 feet high Bailey Suspension Bridge has been completed by the Border Roads Organisation, a month before the deadline. The bridge with a load capacity of 40 tonnes single vehicle at a time has wooden decking. The penal-launching work was completed ahead of the scheduled time by a Kolkata-based company engaged by GREF.

Union govt clears National Green Hydrogen Mission with initial outlay of 19 thousand 744 crore rupees
The Union Government has approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an initial outlay of 19 thousand 744 crore rupees. 

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said, the Mission aims to make India a Global Hub for the production, utilisation, and export of Green Hydrogen.
  • The Minister said, the targets by 2030 are likely to bring in over eight lakh crore rupees investments and create over six lakh jobs. Through this mission, 50 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions will be averted annually. 


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Two-year ban on foreigners buying homes in Canada comes into effect
In Canada, a two-year ban on foreigners buying homes has come into effect. In a statement, the federal housing Minister Ahmed Hussen said, the ban is meant to discourage buyers from looking at homes as commodities instead of a place to live and grow a family.

  • The ban prohibits people who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents from buying residential properties and imposes a fine of 10,000 Canadian Dollar on those who breach it. 
  • The ban aims to help ease one of the most unaffordable housing markets in the world.

India takes over leadership of APPU having its Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand from January
India will take over the leadership of the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU) having its Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand from this month.

  • The goal of APPU is to extend, facilitate and improve postal relations between member countries and to promote cooperation in the field of postal services. 
  • Dr. Vinaya Prakash Singh, erstwhile Member (Personnel), Postal Services Board will take over the charge of Secretary General of the Union for a tenure of four years.This is the first time an Indian is leading an international organization in the postal sector. 


BANKING & FINANCE

Govt & Asian Development Bank sign several loan agreements to boost infrastructure sector in India
Several loan agreements have been signed by the Government and the Asian Development Bank to boost the infrastructure sector in the country. 

  • The Finance Ministry said, a loan agreement was signed worth 350 million US dollars to improve connectivity in Maharashtra, and a loan agreement worth 300 million US dollars will be utilised to upgrade over 300 kilometres of State highways and major district roads in Assam.
  • To improve energy security, quality of supply, efficiency, and resilience of the power sector in Tripura, the Asian Development Bank and the Government has signed a 220 million dollar loan agreement. The Ministry said, a loan agreement worth 350 million US dollars was signed to build new lines and improve the connectivity of the metro rail system in Chennai.

ICICI Bank introduces digital solutions for exporters
ICICI Bank announced the launch of digital solutions for exporters, a comprehensive set of banking and value-added services on a single platform

  • In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the industry, the suite of solutions digitise the entire export life-cycle– from discovery of export markets, export finance, foreign exchange services to receipt of export incentives. 
  • The initiative aims to simplify the journey of exporters by decongesting the current time-intensive manual procedures, thereby significantly improving their operational efficiency.

Hindustan Copper Ltd Signs MoU with IIT (ISM), Dhanbad for Technical Collaboration
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborative and sponsored research projects was signed between Hindustan Copper Limited and Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad,  at HCL Corporate Office in Kolkata. 

  • The first technical collaboration with IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, is a momentous occasion for HCL, the only copper miner in India, owning all the operating mining leases of copper ore in the nation. 
  • Presently, majority of ore production comes through underground mode only and the level of ore production is hovering around four million tonnes per annum. 


SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 

ISRO, Andhra University set up equipment to predict rip currents, prevent drowning at sea
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with National Centre for Earth Sciences (NCES), Thiruvananthapuram and Andhra University will jointly set up equipment to forecast rip currents at Rushikonda and RK beach of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.  

  • According to the state government over 200 people have drowned in sea at various beaches in and around Visakhapatnam during 2012 to 2022 and of these, RK beach in the city accounted for 60 percent of deaths. Majority of the death has been due to the presence of rip currents.  
  • The equipment will be used to inform the local marine and local police to alert visitors in the coastal areas.
