US Navy Ship arrives in India for repairs for first time ever, major boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative
Adding a new dimension to the burgeoning Indo-US strategic partnership, US Navy Ship (USNS) Charles Drew arrived at L&T’s Shipyard at Kattupalli, Chennai for undertaking repairs and allied services. This is the first ever repair of a US Navy ship in India. This will give a huge boost to ‘Make in India’ & ‘Aatmanirbharta in Defence sector.

Govt sets target to eliminate Kala-azar by next year from country
The Government has set the target to eliminate Kala-azar by next year from the country. In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar said, out of 633 Kala-azar endemic blocks, 625 blocks have achieved the elimination target last year.

  • World Health Organisation (WHO) Neglected Tropical Diseases Road map has the target set for Kala-azar elimination is 2030.

Health Budget of the country to be hiked to 2.5 percent of GDP from existing 1.9 percent : Mansukh Mandaviya
Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has said, the government has set a target to increase the Health budget of the country to 2.5 percent of the GDP, which is currently at 1.9 percent. Giving details about the allocations made in the Health budget, he said, in 2014 the total health budget was to the tune of 33 thousand crore rupees which was increased continuously and now it has reached 83 thousand crore rupees in 2022-23.

National Handloom Day: Telangana CM launches Nethanna Bima scheme for weavers
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao launched the Nethanna Bima scheme on the occasion of National Handloom Day.

  • It is one-of-its-kind scheme for weavers that has been introduced in the country and nearly 80,000 weavers’ families will be benefitted through this insurance plan.
  • This scheme will provide ₹5 lakh insurance cover to the weavers’ families in case of the unfortunate demise of an eligible beneficiary.
  • The Telangana government has joined hands with Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India for the ‘Nethanna Beema’ scheme.

Maharashtra: Borgaon Gram Panchayat in Bhandara becomes 1st flag village in the district
As part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign, ahead of the 75th Independence Day, Gram Panchayat Borgaon in Lakhani taluka of Bhandara district of Maharashtra earned the distinction of being the first flag village in the district. This means the tricolour flag has reached all the families, government, and semi-government offices in the village.

  • Gram Panchayat Borgaon has around 224 families. A village level committee was formed under the chairmanship of Sarpanch in the village to see to it that the tricolour flag reaches all the families.

SEBI constitutes 15-member committee to attract foreign investment; Former Chief Economic Advisor K V Subramanian appointed Chairman
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has constituted an expert group of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) to boost overseas flows into the country. The FPI Advisory Committee (FAC) will be chaired by former Chief Economic Adviser KV Subramanian and consists of 14 other members representing foreign banks, stock exchanges depositories and RBI.

  • The FAC has been tasked with advising on issues related to investments and operations of FPIs in the financial markets, including measures to facilitate ease of doing business by FPIs in India.

Tamim Iqbal becomes first Bangladeshi batter to score 8000 runs in ODIs
Bangladeshi ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal became the first batter in the country to score 8000 runs in the ODI during the first ODI being played against Zimbabwe in Harare. Before the start of this match, Tamim had scored a total of 7943 runs. In his over a century long partnership with Liton Das, he achieved this feat scoring 62 runs off 88 balls.

  • Tamim has now joined the list of great players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chris Gayle, Adam Gilchrist and Sourav Ganguly among a total of 33 batters who have scored over 8000 runs in ODIs.

Centre extends services of Cabinet Secry Rajiv Gauba for period of one year
The Centre extended the services of Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba for a period of one year beyond the 30th of this month. The decision was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet.

Gustavo Petro sworn in as Colombia’s first leftist President
In Colombia, the first leftist President was sworn into office. Gustavo Petro was a former member of Colombia’s M-19 guerrilla group, won the Presidential Election in June by beating conservative parties.
