Ministry of Housing launches India Smart Cities Fellowship (ISCF) and Internship (ISCI) Programmes

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUA) has launched two programmes to give youth the chance to work In the domain of urban planning and governance.

  • The programmes are the India Smart Cities Fellowship (ISCF) and the India Smart Cities Internship (ISCI).
  • The ministry also launched the Smart Cities Digital Payments Awards (SCDPA) 2018, which is part of the initiatives of MoHUA to promote ease of living for India’s urban residents.

NITI Aayog Released Paper On ‘National Health Stack’

The central government think tank NITI Aayog has unveiled the blueprint of ‘National Health Stack’ (NHS), a shared digital healthcare infrastructure. The blueprint is in line with the implementation of the Centre’s flagship scheme Ayushman Bharat and other public healthcare programmes in the country.

  • According to a consultation paper titled ‘National Health Stack Strategy an Approach’, the National Health Stack will facilitate the collection of comprehensive healthcare data across the country. This will allow policymakers to further build their projections around upcoming outcomes, experiment with new services as well as fill the existing gaps in the Indian healthcare industry among others.

Himachal Pradesh to ban plastic, thermocol cutlery across state

After Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh Government is all set to ban the use of plastic and thermocol cutlery in the state.

  • The ban that comes under Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1995, will come into effect within three months and will be applicable for both individuals and commercial establishments.

Microsoft partners with Rajasthan government on digital literacy

Microsoft India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government to improve the integration of technology in teaching and skilling of students and educators in government colleges.

  • As part of this agreement with the Rajasthan government’s Department of College Education, Microsoft will train a total of 9,500 students and 500 faculty members from 50 colleges in the state in four months.

HCL Technologies gets govternment’s nod to set up SEZ in Andhra Pradesh

The commerce ministry has approved a proposal of HCL Technologies to set up a new IT special economic zone (SEZ) in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, with a proposed investment of Rs 408.48 crore.

  • SEZs are developed as export hubs and they contribute about 25 per cent in the country’s total exports.
  • The ministry has recently constituted a group, headed by Bharat Forge Chairman Baba Kalyani, to study the SEZ policy.

Prakash Javadekar Inaugurates 17th World Sanskrit Conference in Canada

Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the 17th World Sanskrit Conference held at Vancouver, Canada.

  • The purpose of this conference is to promote, preserve and practice the Sanskrit language all over the world by the people. The World Sanskrit Conference is being held in various countries across the globe once in every three years and so far it has been held thrice in India.

Ram Vilas Paswan to attend UNCTAD meet on consumer issues in Geneva

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan is on a visit to Geneva to attend the UNCTAD meeting of a third inter-governmental group of experts on consumer protection on July 9-10.

  • This group has been set up under the revised UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection.
  • UNCTAD is the UN body looking after consumer issues and is headquartered in Geneva.

Nepal, India agree to finalize MoU on Raxual-Kathmandu railway line

Nepali and Indian officials agreed to an early finalization of an MoU for Preliminary Engineering cum Traffic Survey of the Raxaul-Kathmandu rail line.

  • The move came at a time when there is buzz about the Chinese railway crossing the Himalayas to counter the Indian influence in Nepal.

T20 rankings: India move up to second place, Rahul rises to career-high third spot

In-form India batsman KL Rahul has jumped nine places to reach a career-high third spot in the latest ICC T20 rankings while his team has gained a place to be second in the team standings following the series win against England.

  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli, on the other hand, slipped down four places to settle with the 12th position.

Sreejesh to lead Indian hockey team at Asian Games 2018

Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will lead the 18-member Indian men’s hockey squad while Chinglensana Singh Kangujam will serve as his deputy in the 18th Asian Games, which is slated to begin in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18.

TV actor Kavi Kumar Azad, best-known for his role of Dr Hansraj Haathi in the popular comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.
