Malnutrition in mothers increases by 25 percent in crisis-hit countries
The number of pregnant and breastfeeding women suffering from acute malnutrition has soared by 25 percent across 12 countries in Africa and Asia since 2020, according to a UNICEF report.

  • In the report published, UNICEF said that the number of malnourished mothers increased from 5.5 million to 6.9 million over the last two years in countries hardest hit by a global nutrition crisis, exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, drought, conflict and instability.

Axis Bank ties up with ITC to offer loans to farmers
Axis Bank has collaborated with ITC Ltd to offer loans and services to farmers who are part of ITC’s agriculture ecosystem, the two companies said .

  • The partnership will enable Axis Bank to cater to the financial requirements of unserved and under-served farmers based in remote regions by offering them a range of assets and liability products such as farmer loans and gold loans, among others.
  • Axis Bank will leverage ITCMAARS (Meta Market for Advanced Agricultural Rural Services), a full-stack agri-tech application to reach out to the farmers and address their financial requirements.

Yes Bank and Aadhar Housing Finance ink co-lending partnership
Yes Bank said it has partnered with Aadhar Housing Finance Ltd to offer home loans at competitive interest rates to customers from lower and middle-income groups.

  • Under the partnership, the entities will provide products such as Home Loan for Salaried Employees, Loan for Plot Purchase and Construction, Home Improvement Loan, Loan Against Residential Commercial Property, Balance Transfers and Top Up, among others, to customers from lower and middle-income groups.

Kotak MF launches ‘DigitALL’ campaign to celebrate International Women’s Day
Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company (Kotak Mutual Fund) has launched a digital campaign called ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’, which calls for digital inclusion of all with the hashtag #IncludeAll.

  • The digital campaign video showcases Kotak group’s women employees sharing their stories about supporting and empowering other women in their lives by imparting them the knowledge of digital literacy.

Col Geeta Rana becomes first woman to command EME unit near China border
After the Indian Army recently cleared women officers for command roles, Colonel Geeta Rana of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers has become the first woman officer to take over command of an independent field workshop in the Eastern Ladakh sector with China.

  • The officer has taken over the command of the EME independent workshop after the Army cleared 108 vacancies for women officers for taking command of independent units in the Corps of Engineers, Ordinance, EME and other branches.

Group Captain Shaliza Dhami 1st woman to command frontline IAF combat unit
Group Captain Shaliza Dhami is the first woman officer in the history of the IAF to be given the frontline combat unit’s command.

  • Group Captain Shaliza Dhami has been selected by the Indian Air Force to take over a frontline combat unit’s command in the western sector.
  • Dhami started her journey in the IAF two decades ago as a qualified flying instructor. She has logged over 2,800 hours of flying.

Sir David Alan Chipperfield Wins the 2023 Pritzker Prize 
Civic architect, urban planner and activist, Sir David Alan Chipperfield has been selected as the 2023 Laureate of The Pritzker Architecture Prize, the award that is regarded internationally as architecture’s highest honor.

  • Chipperfield’s storied career spans more than 40 years and includes 100-plus projects, ranging from civic, cultural, and academic buildings to residences and urban masterplanning throughout Asia, Europe, and North America.
  • His built works, spanning over four decades, are expansive in typology and geography, including over one hundred works ranging from civic, cultural and academic buildings to residences and urban masterplanning throughout Asia, Europe and North America.


OBITUARIES

Veteran Actor-Director Satish Kaushik passes away at 67
Veteran actor-writer-director Satish Kaushik died of a heart attack while he was on his way to a Gurugram hospital. He was 66.

  • He directed Sridevi`s film, “Roop Ki Rani, Choron Ka Raja” and later “Prem”, both disasters, but he got his big hit with “Hum Aapke Dil Me Rehte Hain” and also “Tere Sang”, among many others.
