Government to undertake 100 days Good Governance Campaign from 25th December

Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Information & Broadcasting said that the Government is committed to bring about transformational changes in the country with the mantra of ‘Reform, Perform & Transform’. The vision has been depicted in the Government of India Calendar 2017 with the theme “Mera Desh Badal Raha Hai, Aage Badh Raha Hai”.

  • Shri Naidu also announced that starting from 25th December this year, the Government would be launching a 100 days campaign across the country on the theme of Good Governance.
  • He also launched google map toilet locator to help people find access to clean public restrooms.

Govt to soon set up helpline number for pregnant women

Government will soon set up a toll free number 10588 to provide relevant information and guidance directly to the pregnant women. The toll free number will be functional at Mother and Child Tracking Facilitation Centre (MCTFC) in New Delhi. The caller can give a missed call at this number and the operator will call back within 90 seconds to address their queries.


Centre to allow swapping of coal

Power minister Piyush Goyal announced the government would allow swapping (exchanging) of coal among government and private firms. In May, the government had allowed coal swapping among central and state-owned power plants to bring in operational efficiency.

  • To facilitate the coal swapping, Goyal launched ‘Coal Mitra’ web portal, which would indicate the most efficient way of utilising coal from by an end-user.

NGT bans waste burning in open areas across the country

In a significant order, the NGT (National Green Tribunal) imposed a complete ban on burning of waste in open places across the country and announced a fine of Rs 25,000 on each incident of bulk waste burning.


Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot Releases ‘Saanjhi Saanjh’ Newspaper

Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment released the first issue of a National Newspaper dedicated to Senior Citizen, ‘Saanjhi Saanjh’ in Delhi.


Najeeb Jung resigns as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

In a surprise move, Najeeb Jung resigned as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He submitted his resignation to the government of India. According to Raj Bhawan, Jung would be returning to his first love, which is, academics.


Mizoram churches appeal to state govt to not observe Good Governance Day on Christmas

The Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of leaders of 14 major churches in Mizoram, appealed to the state government not to observe ‘Good Governance Day’ on Christmas. The Centre’s decision to observe ‘Good Governance Day’ on December 25 is one of the most important religious day of Christians, according to a statement issued by the committee.


Mizoram’s Aizawl becomes first free Wi-Fi city in North-East

Creating history, Aizawl became the first free Wi-Fi city in the North-East region. Free wi-fi is a pilot project of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation.


Haryana: In govt-run schools, film lessons to go cashless

The Haryana education department has started screening a short film on demonetisation in government schools to highlight that the move would bring about positive changes in the economy and help tackle corruption. The 20-minute film is currently being screened in 10 state-run schools in Chandigarh.

  • Watching the movie is compulsory for students of Class VI on wards, but school authorities are making sure that every class watches it.

Uttar Pradesh govt to develop Jawaharbagh Park

Five months after two policemen died during a clash with encroachers at Jawaharbagh Park in Mathura, the state Cabinet cleared the proposal to develop park on the pattern of Lohia Park in Lucknow.


RBI fines five foreign banks for FEMA violation

Reserve Bank of India imposed monetry penalty on five authorised dealer banks for violation of norms. A penalty of Rs 10,000 each has been imposed on Bank of America, Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Chartered Bank. While the Deutsche Bank hass been fined Rs 20,000.

Google Railtel Wi-Fi rolls out at Udhagamandalam, its 100th railway station in India

After rolling out Railwire Wi-Fi at Udhagamandalam (Ooty) station, Google has successfully launched high-speed Internet to 100 of the busiest railway stations across India.

  • The first station at which the service was introduced is Patna, Bihar.

The Indian Railways has launched a Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) provided by French firm Thales on the 68-km-long Basin Bridge-Arakkonam section in southern India


Snapdeal to deliver cash to your doorstep

At the time of cash delivery, the consumers will need to swipe their ATM card on the PoS machines, which Snapdeal’s courier partners will carry for all such deliveries.

  • Once transaction is successful, the courier person will hand over Rs 2,000 in cash. A user can request Rs 2,000 per booking and any bank’s ATM card can be used to pay for the cash.
  • Currently, the service has gone live in Gurgaon and Bangalore only.

BSNL ties up with Datamail to provide email services in 8 Indian languages

Following the ‘Digital India’ dream of the government, BSNL has offered free e-mail address service in eight Indian languages to its broadband users by launching a ‘DataMail’ service. Now BSNL broadband users will be able to open an email ID in DataMail service in their own language.
