CPWD to help Bhutan in green and sustainable construction

Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the construction major under the Ministry of Urban Development will assist Bhutan in green and sustainable construction of infrastructure.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding in this regard was signed between CPWD and Department of Engineering Services, Ministry of Works and Human Settlements, Royal Government of Bhutan in Thimpu.

India likely to host key RCEP meeting in July

India is expected to host in July next year the negotiations for mega trade deal RCEP which aims at liberalising norms for trade in goods and services and boost investment among 16-member countries.

  • The 16—member bloc RCEP comprises 10 ASEAN members (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos and Vietnam) and their six FTA partners — India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Free Wi-Fi service at 100 railway stations

With Kollam in south India becoming Wi-Fi-enabled, railways have completed the task of equipping 100 stations with free Wi-Fi service across the country by the end of 2016. The next move is to cover 400 major stations with free Wi-Fi by next year.

  • In January this year, railways launched its first free Wi-Fi services at Mumbai Central station

Army to set up R&D cell at IIT-Gandhinagar

The Indian Army has entered into an agreement with the IIT-Gandhinagar (IITGN) to set up a research and development (R&D) cell on the campus.

  • Staffed by the faculty and research students, the R&D cell will attempt to solve the technical challenges faced by the army.

With an aim to establish Gujarat as a preferred destination for manufacturing of biotechnology products, the state government announced it’s ‘Biotechnology Policy-2016’.

  • The policy has various incentives for investors who are keen to set up their units in the state.

Karnataka govt launches 25 bio-diesel buses in the state

In an effort to reduce pollution caused by diesel buses, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched 25 bio-diesel buses in the state.


Madhya pradesh govt hikes DA by 7% for its employees, pensioners

The Madhya Pradesh government announced a 7 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees, pensioners and those working with the local bodies and panchayats.

  • It would come into effect from July, 2016 and the payments would begin with the salaries of December, 2016.

Gurgaon could become first in country to get Caterpillar Train

Haryana has taken the lead to set up a pilot corridor for the “Caterpillar Train”, a new concept for urban mass-transit solution designed by an Indian Railway officer which won a global award at the MIT in the United States earlier this year.


PVR introduces UPI payment option at its multiplexes

PVR Cinemas, the largest cinema exhibition company in India, launched a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) for its 122 properties across the country. The option will enable customers to make online payments via UPI in addition to net banking, wallets and credit/debit cards.

First cancer surgery on Lifeline Express

Hiralal Lodhi became the first patient to be operated in India for a cancer surgery on a train, called ‘Lifeline Express’, parked at Satna Junction in Madhya Pradesh until December 28.

  • The train, a joint initiative of Tata Memorial Hospital, Ministry of Railways and NGO Impact India, will run the length and breadth of the country to extend cancer care in remote parts.
