SBI collaborates with Korea Development Bank; launches Korea Desk in Mumbai

The bank aims to be the window to inbound Korean Investments in India and vice-versa, which will facilitate the establishment of banking relationship with the Korean corporates and the Korean nationals, provide information on industries, sectors etc.


IDBI Bank ties up with Consumerfed

Kerala State Cooperatives Consumers’ Federation (Consumerfed) has tied up with IDBI Bank to facilitate cashless purchases for its consumers.


Catholic Syrian Bank’s ‘name and shame’ campaign starts paying dividends

The ‘name and shame campaign’ initiated by Catholic Syrian Bank Employees and Retirees against wilful defaulters in Kerala seems to have started paying dividends.

  • Of the 30 defaulters identified by the bank with dues of more than Rs 50 lakh each, 10 borrowers have already approached the bank with settlement proposals.

ISRO launches 104 satellites, breaks Russia’s record

Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) lifted off successfully with a record 104 satellites, including the country’s earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 series.

  • Flying its 39th mission since it became operational in 1993, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) — called PSLV-C37 — delivered into space a payload of 1,378 kg in its 38th consecutive successful flight.
  • ISRO’s earth observation Cartosat-2 satellite (714 kg), from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, and its two “technology demonstration” nano satellites (INS-1 and 2) were the only Indian payloads on PSLV-C37. The rest were commercial launches for international customers, through agreements with ISRO’s commercial arm Antrix Corporation.
  • Of the 101 foreign satellites launched by PSLV, 96 are from the US — including 88 from the start-up, Planet Labs, a San Franciso-based earth imaging company — while one satellite each is from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Kazakhstan and the UAE.
  • ISRO held the record for most number of satellites launched in one mission between 2008 and 2013, after launching 10 satellites in April 2008 on board PSLV C9. This number was overrun by NASA in November 2013, with the launch of 29 satellites on the Minotaur 1 rocket, and then by the Russian space agency Roscosmos State Corporation’s DNEPR rocket in November 2013 and June 2014 with the launch of 33 and 37 satellites respectively.

Government launches pre-loaded Sim card for tourists

Ministry of Tourism and Culture launched pre-loaded Sim Card to foreign tourists arriving in India on e-Visa.

  • This initiative will facilitate the foreign tourists in communicating with their acquaintances immediately after their arrival in India.
  • This initiative has been launched in association with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., (BSNL), wherein BSNL would distribute pre-loaded SIM cards to foreign tourists arriving in India on e-Visa.
  • Sim cards will be pre-loaded with a value of Rs. 50 talk time and 50 MB data and will be activated on immediate basis so as to enable them use this facility instantly.

Govt launches TAMRA app to ensure transparency in mining operations

Government has launched Transparency, Auction Monitoring and Resource Augmentation (TAMRA) mobile application and portal to ensure transparent award of statutory clearances for mining operations.


Cabinet approves Establishment of Food Legumes Research Platform (FLRP) at Amlaha, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the Establishment of Food Legumes Research Platform (FLRP) at Amlaha, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh with Satellite Hubs in West Bengal (for pulses) and Rajasthan (for Natural Resource Management) by ICARDA in the second phase; by International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA).


Sri Lanka, India jointly laid foundation stone of 355 houses in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, the foundation stone for construction of 355 houses under Indian Housing Project was jointly laid.

  • The houses are to be built in Bogawana estate on grant basis. The project is part of Government of India’s commitment to construct 50,000 houses in Sri Lanka.

Airbus signs MoU for setting up centre of excellence in Hyderabad

Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a Centre of Excellence for aerospace skill development in Hyderabad, together with the Telangana government, National Skill Development Corporation India and AEROCAMPUS France.

  • The Centre will come up at Begumpet Airport.
  • The MoU was signed at Aero India 2017 in Bengaluru.
