Bharat QR code launched to push less-cash economy

BharatQR code, the world’s first interoperable payment acceptance solution, was launched as part of efforts to move towards less-cash economy at an “insignificant cost”.

  • Developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Mastercard, and Visa, BharatQR code would require merchants to only display one QR code instead of multiple ones.
  • Devised on the direction set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in September last year, it will make payments seamless for buyers as they just have to “scan to pay” for transactions instead of swiping their credit/debit cards.

SBI launches generic top level domain with its website ‘Bank.sbi’

The State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday announced rebranding of its corporate website as ‘bank.sbi’ from earlier sbi.co.in in respect of generic Top Level Domain (gTLD). gTLD adoption that enables an organization to use its corporate name (.sbi) as their website’s top-level identifier.

  • With the rebranding, SBI has become the first banking organization in India to use a gTLD for its internet presence and providing an exclusive experience of assurance and security to its customers.
  • The existing site of the bank i.e. ‘sbi.co.in’ is reportedly to continue till the customers get used to the new avtar of SBI’s secure website.

Karnataka Bank inks pact with Daimler India

Karnataka Bank Ltd has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd (DICV) for extending finance to customers for the purchase of commercial vehicles manufactured by the company.

India, Pakistan extend pact on cutting risk of nuke-related mishaps

India and Pakistan extended their bilateral pact, dealing with reducing the risk of nuclear weapon-related accidents, for a period of five years.

  • According to the pact, which was inked in 2007, both India and Pakistan shall notify each other immediately in the event of an accident relating to nuclear weapons, under their respective jurisdiction or control, which could create the risk of a radioactive fallout, with adverse consequences for both sides or create the risk of an outbreak of a nuclear war between the two countries.

India to open resident mission in Rwanda soon

Seeking to give its diaspora community in Rwanda a greater push, India will open its resident mission in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, a move that will further enhance bilateral ties – Vice President Hamid Ansari announced who is on a five-day visit to Rwanda and Uganda.


Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang resigns amidst political turmoil

Embattled Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang announced his resignation from the top post, days after party legislators withdrew their support to break the deadlock between agitating tribal groups and the government.

  • Nagaland has been in a state of turmoil ever since the Nagaland Tribal Action Committee began their agitation demanding the resignation of Zeliang over his decision to conduct civic bodies’ elections with 33 per cent reservation for women.

DMRC to bring in world’s first transit rating system

The world’s first transit rating system, which caters exclusively to metro networks, has been unveiled at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s head office.

  • With this, the Metro Bhawan has also become the first building in the country to achieve a certification by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
