SBI’s new home loan scheme: Hamara Ghar offer

In an effort to push home loans, State Bank of India (SBI) announced a scheme offering fixed rate for the first two years at 8.5% for women and 8.55% for men. 

  • In SBI’s new loan offer Hamara Ghar, once the fixed term of two years ends, the interest rate on the home loan will be linked to the prevailing one­year marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR).

Karnataka Bank launches accident insurance scheme

Karnataka Bank has launched a month-long campaign to promote a group personal accident insurance scheme for savings bank account-holders. ‘KBL Suraksha’, which was launched on January 2, will be in force till January 31.


Regional rural bank targets 9 digital villages

The Dharwad-headquartered Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB), a regional rural bank (RRB) sponsored by Syndicate Bank, is planning to make nine villages under its jurisdiction as 100 per cent digital villages by this January end.

Google India announced key initiatives for the small and medium businesses in India, including a new tool that would help them create an online presence, besides a digital training programme.

  • The tech giant has created two initiatives — My Business and Digital Unlocked — which have been introduced in India first.

Tamil Nadu CM rolls out free bicycle scheme for 2016-17

The ruling AIADMK’s populist free bicycle scheme was formally rolled out by Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in Chennai for the academic year 2016-17 to students of class eleven, costing Rs 243.96 crore to the exchequer. Late AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa had introduced the scheme during the 2001-02 academic year, benefitting students of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

ISRO to launch record 103 satellites in one go in February

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch a 103 satellites on a single rocket in the first week of February, a major unprecedented feat.

  • The space agency had earlier planned a launch of 83 satellites in the last week of January, of which 80 were foreign ones. But with the addition of 20 more foreign satellites, the launch was delayed by a week and will now take place in first week of February.
