HDFC Bank launches chatbot Eva for customer services

HDFC Bank has announced the launch of an electronic virtual assistant (EVA), an artificial intelligence-driven chatbot, for customer services.

  • Eva is India’s first AI-based banking chatbot and can answer millions of customer queries across multiple channels instantly.
  • With the launch of Eva, bank’s customers can get information on its products and services instantaneously and it also becomes smarter as it learns through its customer interactions.

Syndicate Bank targets 372 ‘Ananya’ branches by month end

Syndicate Bank — which is implementing ‘Project Ananya’ (business process re-engineering initiative) — is targeting to transform nearly 10 per cent of its branches as ‘Ananya-transformed’ ones by the end of this month.

Vijaya Bank opens its 2,000th branch in Tirupati

Vijaya Bank has opened its 2000th branch in Tirupati. This is the region’s 65th branch and the second in Tirupati city.

Canara Bank bags medals at PR Council’s communication conclave

Public sector Canara Bank has won a number of medals in the Collateral Awards Category at the 11th Global Communication Conclave held in Bangaluru by the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).

  • The bank won a gold medal for a radio jingle and silver medals for Corporate Film and Brochure (CSR).
  • It won bronze medals for its in-house magazine (regional language), corporate advertisement – print, table calendar – 2017 and Big Diary 2017.

FinMin gives in-principle nod to ESOPs by PSU banks

Finance Ministry has agreed in-principle to allow public sector banks to offer stock options to their employees from next fiscal — a move aimed at retaining experienced hands with better incentives.

  • Employee Stock Option plans (ESOPs) could be given by those banks which have not only earned substantial profit but also made remarkable improvement in managing NPAs.
  • It will help motivate employees to work towards strengthening the financial status of their banks so that their share value rises

Cabinet approves MoU between India and the United Nations Entity of Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN-Women)

Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the United Nations Entity of Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women).

  • The proposal seeks to provide technical support to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in strengthening capacities of governance institutions including Panchayati Raj Institutions(PRIs) to better leverage opportunities created for gender equality through legislation, policies and programmes.

ICRA expects 8 pct to 9 pct RevPar growth in FY2018 for Indian Hotel Industry

Credit rating agency ICRA announced its expectations RevPar for Indian Hotel Industry to grow by eight percent to nine percent in FY2018 aided by stronger domestic demand, strong flows in FTA and the return of pricing power across markets barring few micro-markets in NCR, Kolkata and Chennai.

World’s oldest serving aircraft carrier INS Viraat retires

INS Viraat, the world’s oldest aircraft carrier in active service has been decommissioned with a ceremonial send-off in Mumbai.

  • INS Viraat was commissioned in Indian Navy in 1987 (so till now 30 years of service to Indian Navy), before that the historic ship served Royal British Navy for 27 long years.
  • It was built in 1943, during the Second World War.

Indo-Oman military exercise begins in Himachal Pradesh

A 14-day joint military training between India and Oman started in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh.

  • The joint training exercise of the Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman, named Al Nagah-II 2017, commenced with the opening ceremony at Bakloh in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
