Quantitative Aptitude: Data Interpretation Questions Set 35

Data Interpretation Questions (DI) for IBPS PO 2017, IBPS PO, NIACL, NICL, SBI PO RBI Grade B, Dena Bank PO PGDBF, BOI, Bank of Baroda and other competitive exams.

Direction (1-5): Read the information below and answer the questions that follow.

Five people A, B, C, D and E took part in a competition which comprises of completing a painting while they are in a running position. The table below shows the time taken by them to complete a painting when they are in static position and their maximum speed. When in running position the time taken by them to complete a painting increased by (60*n) minutes where n is the speed at which they are running at that moment.
Note: Take n in m/s. When we say time is increased by (60*n) minutes, it means that time increased is directly proportional to n.
A person has to start drawing the painting as soon as he starts running.

  1. A runs at half his maximum speed for the full duration of the race. He completes the race 60 minutes after the time when he completed his painting. Find the distance that he covered when he completed the race.
    A) 7500 m
    B) 5600 m
    C) 8100 m
    D) 7800 m
    E) cannot be determined
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution
    :
    Total time taken to complete the painting by A= 180+ (0.5*60)= 210 minutes
    Time taken to complete the race is 60 minutes more than this=210+60=270 minutes
    We have time in minutes and speed= 0.5 m/s so convert it in metre/minute = 0.5*60 /60 sec= 30 m/min
    Distance= speed*time= 30*270= 8100 m
  2. B started running at (2/3)rd of his maximum speed and continued at the same speed till the end of the race and hence completes the race in 180 minutes. As a result some part of his painting remains incomplete. Find the time required to complete this remaining portion of the painting in static position after he has completed the race.
    A) 30 minutes
    B) 100/7 minutes
    C) 60 minutes
    D) 150/7 minutes
    E) 75/4 minutes
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution
    :
    Time that B will take to complete the painting in running position= 150 + (n*60) minutes
    n=2/3*1.5= 1 m/s
    Time required to complete the painting=150 + 1*60=210 minutes
    So in 180 minutes he completed 180/210 part of the painting= 6/7
    Remaining=1/7
    in static position B can complete 1 paining in 150 min; so 1/7 paining in 150/7 minutes
  3. C starts running at his maximum speed and runs for 136 minutes at this speed. What total distance did he cover while completing the race if he completes the painting exactly when he finishes his race running at 1 m/s for the remaining distance.
    A) 26,616 m
    B) 28,116 m
    C) 31,626 m
    D) 27,518 m
    E) 30,288 m
    View Answer
      Option E
    Explanation
    : When running at 1.8 m/s time required= 300 + (1.8*60)= 408 minute
    Distance travelled= speed*time= 108 m/min*136 min= 14688 m
    Part of painting completed in 136 min= 136/408=1/3
    remaining = 2/3
    this 2/3 part can be completed in 2/3*300=200 minutes in static position by C
    when running at 1 m/s time taken to complete 2/3 part = 200 + 1*60= 260 minute
    distance= speed*time= 260*60= 15600
    total distance= 14688+ 15600 m
  4. A and D take part in a relay race of distance 12 km to be covered by A and D in equal half parts. First A will cover the half distance while completing the painting and then hand over the painting to D and then D will cover the remaining half while completing the painting. A start the race and hands over the painting to D after half distance find the part of the painting that remains incomplete after D has finished the race. (A runs at his maximum speed while D runs at 0.8 m/s)
    A) 63/188
    B) 65/187
    C) 67/188
    D) 65/188
    E) 67/187
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution
    :
    Speed of A= 60m /min – to cover half distance i.e 6 km
    Time required by A=6000/60= 100 min
    time required to complete the painting= 180 + (1*60)=240
    part completed=10/240=5/12; part remaining= 7/12
    To complete this 7/12 part in static position D will take 7/12*240 min=140 min
    so when running at 0.8 m/s he will take = 140 + (0.8*60)= 188 min
    Total time to complete the race= 6000/48=125 min
    So part of painting remaining = 1 – 125/188= 63/188
  5. Running at a speed of 1.5 m/s, B finishes his race exactly when he finishes the painting while running. Find the distance that he ran.
    A) 20500 m
    B) 21600 m
    C) 25100 m
    D) 18100 m
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution
    :
    Let Distance=D
    Time for completing the race in minutes= D/90
    Time for completing the painting when running at 1.5 m/s = 150 + (1.5*60)= 240
    so we have D/90=240
    D= 21600 m

Direction (6-10): Read the information below and answer the questions that follow.

The table below shows the data about five countries for the year 2015 regarding the percentage of people having at least one Facebook account. The table also provides the information about how many maximum mobile connection a person can have and the number of Unique Facebook account that can be linked/opened using one unique mobile number. Study the table and answer the questions. Some symbols that are used in the table and questions is given below.
P= Total population of a country
Y= percent of people having at least one unique Facebook account
U= People in the country having at least one unique Facebook account
F= total fake Facebook account in a country
T= Total Facebook account in a country= U + F

  1. For which country P/U ratio is maximum?
    A) USA
    B) India
    C) China
    D) Japan
    E) Russia
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution
    :
    Notice that P= total population and U= number of people in the country with at least one unique Facebook account. If we consider 100 as total population then the percentage Y will be equivalent to U in case of percentage
    i.e P/U=100/Y
    so rather than finding out actual value and then finding the ratio, just find 100/Y for each country and the ratio will be greatest for Japan as it has lowest Y. So answer is Japan
  2. What is the total number of Facebook account in Japan?
    A) 15710000
    B) 16510000
    C) 18530000
    D) 27420000
    E) 17510000
    View Answer
    Option E
    Solution
    :
    U=31/100*127 million + 10 lakh = 17510000

    C) 51840000
    D) 65260000
    E) 67280000
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution
    :
    Person with unique FB account= 18/100*144 mn * 2*1 (2 for no. of mobile connection and 1 for 1 fb account per mobile number)
  4. What is the difference between T(India) and T(China)
    A) 68460000
    B) 69060000
    C) 67830000
    D) 65720000
    E) 69120000
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution
    :
    23/100*1311 mn – 17/100*1371 mn = 304230000 – 235170000=
  5. If in the year 2016 for the country having third highest population in 2015, there is an increase of 10% in the total population and Y% for this country increases to 33% of the total population, then find the difference between U(2016)and U(2015) for this country.
    A) 17034000
    B) 17024000
    C) 17031000
    D) 17013000
    E) 17004000
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution
    :
    The country with third highest population is USA. Population in 2016= 110/100*321 million= 353100000
    33% of 353100000= 116523000 (U(2016))
    U(2015)= 31% of 321 mn = 99510000
    Difference= 17013000
